Zippo here for the PCGS Set. Have been looking for a nicely toned 40D and 40S in 66FB or67FB. A decent 40D was on the Heritage Site but by the time the mind was made up the coin was gone. I suppose all of you have seen the bunch of 40D's in 67FB they put up on thier site. The Pops jumped again I suppose with the slug of them they have on thier site.

Did get a coin today for the NGC short set I decided to build. All toned coins in it except the 45 Micro S which is so white I am almost embarrased to own the thing. Thats it from here.

John it looks like you are going after these with a passion. Nice coins you have listed for additions. image

Tim I have a feeling the prices could get bad......or good in his case. Have you seen his set in person ? Some killer grades in it and I suppose some killer coins also.

    Ken
  • Ken,
I have only seen a few of his coins , some of the ones I sold to him
and a couple I have bought from him and a few he got in January
at the fun show. but what I have seen have been nice, that should be
a good auction catalog from heritage

Your pretty close to top if your #3 ..is that you?imageimageimageimage

    Tim,

Some of us are going away to Micronesia when that sale comes around - but I belive that will be a super catalog - even though the Eisenberg one a few months ago was cool too!

    Marc,

    #3 is Dimeman.

    Hi fellow Mercateers!

I feel like I have been treading water for the last few weeks. Haven't been able to find anything that I need that I both like and can afford. Would love to get at least one coin form the Stokely set, but the ones that I need are some very powerfull, read expensive, dimes in the grades he has. Looks like the last 16 are going to be acquired at a lot slower rate. I figure I have 10 years to finish the set, so I'll just be patient and see what comes along.

    Regards,

    Wayne

  • Well,
I am working on many different things at the present, mostly trying to save up some money for at least one more MS coin to upgrade a coin in my set this year. That 30S on ebay, is one of them I would like to upgrade, but if not, so be it. I would rather get one the the lower non MS coins out of the set first. Jon, that 25D looks like one I could use...imageimage

I have one of the 40-D dimes on the way to me that Ken mentioned in his post. Heritage must have had 12 or so of these dimes on their website and the pictures on the Heritage website were all uniformally lousy. I complained a bit to the gentleman that helped me buy the coin. He pointed out that Heritage has many tens of thousands of coins and so it would be virtually impossible to have top-rate (=Adrian-style) pictures for all or even many of them. After talking with him, I have a lot more sympathy for his viewpoint.

By the way, his thought about the mass of MS67FB 40-Ds was that perhaps Heritage had acquired a high-end roll and submitted the coins from it to PCGS. Whatever the reason, the pop of the 40-D must have jumped a foot!

I must say that the Mercury dime people have been quite for a while. I myself have added a few dime to my set only to move down not upimage I woun't be buying any more dime for awhile I need some shoulder repair work which will be done on the 30th of may. Don't let me drop off the top 20 nowimage when I get back I will try to fine something to add.

Have fun and keep using the passing signalsimage

    John,

Congats on your new acquisitions. I wouldn't mind finding a '25-D myself.

I haven't added any Mercs in a while, either. I'm trying to save some money, but if the right coin comes along, I'll pounce on it.

I do have a '38 proof quarter on the way for my Washington set, but other than that, not much is happening with my sets. I'm spending less time on the computer in favor of taking care of some chores outdoors.

It appears someone pulled their basic Merc set. I was number 20 and moved up to 19 without doing anything to my set. Do we know who pulled their set?

  • It was on another thread somewhere. They did pull one but left the varities set.

I am the collector right in front of you--now #18. So, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT adding anything new to your set!! Or .... or ..... or.... or something!!!!!!

P.S.: Boy, that set right behind you is 34% complete and is so close to you and me. I guess that's what happens when you buy the difficult 34% of your set first! image

    DP,

It was Tony (ARS) he withdrew his set to drive us all insane just like he did when he entered it, and like he'll do when he puts it back in again and when.............image

Yup. It was me! Am I driving you nuts? Currently, I prefer the varieties set, so that is where I will reside (at least for nowimage. I do have a regular set, but it is the coins I have upgraded, so the lower grades go into that set for now.

Those are old coins that are in my set. That 24D did come from David Lawrence though about a year and a half ago. Pretty sharp coin for a 64. The one I got today is not shown because no final confirmation from them has arrived. I will say that I think it will rival the 24D. Anyway that was my take from thier scans.

    You sly dog!!!!imageimageimageimageimage

Your added coins pulled you 0.01 ahead of my set!!Gosh darn it, I guess we could get closer but I have no idea how! And, to top it all off, I asked my wife to get a commemorative half for me for Father's day rather than a Merc. But, it's amazing to me that our sets rank so close together.

So, I ask in a small, trembling voice, "You don't happen to have any more coins on the way, do you?"

Also, CONGRATULATIONS on your MS68 44-S dime--it must be a stunning piece!

    Mark,

Thanks for the nice comments. The 44-S is a beauty. I really need to get a good camera set up so I can share some of my Mercs with everyone. I am done for a while, unless of course a 16-P in 66 shows up somewhere. This is a tough coin in NB, but really easy to find in FB due to the good strikes with the new dies that year.

This is journey, so I am certain I will be flipping back and forth with a number of those who are slowly but surely making progress on the set. As you all know, it is the finding the coin that is the toughest part.
