Any ideas on this Morgan.

MadMartyMadMarty Posts: 16,697 ✭✭✭
I was digging through the junk box and came across this coin I have had for ages. It's an 1889 Morgan with little dinples all over it on the obverse and reverse. Any ideas?

i too first thought it looked like a cast, and then it almost looks like it has been sandblasted, or glass beaded.............

Its actually a coin which was cleaned using a wire brush. If you get one of scott travers first "coin collectors survival guide" you can read a little about it
Retail coin dealers, the only people who can buy a $10 coin for $2, and sell it for $30.

Wire brush like on a bench grinder?
    Very possible.
If so you should see scratches running up close to the designs but not actually touching them, just like on a whizzed coin.
Otherwise it's been in a fire.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
