Mixing business and proof

Who mixes business strikes with proof ones in his/her type set? How about series sets. I mix 'em in type but not in series. Are there any pros or cons? Let me know watcha think.

  • I mix in the type set.
when I show my set everyone wants to know why the proofs look so much better than the MS
so for looks alone I say dont mix.

Mix away... 80 to 100 proof goes down smooth. Oh, you mean coins. Yea, mix 'em up.

I do, but because of the purists PCGS has a) type sets b) circulated types sets and c) proof type sets.

  • I mix them.

I love deep cameo proof coins. But I don't feel like doing without my Standing Liberty Quarters and such. I also avoid proof gold and stick with business strike gold because of cost.

20th century type, I have a proof and mint state set because I love proofs, but the cs pieces are very affordable. 19th century is mixed. I love proofs, but know I can't afford proofs in the early types.

I mix them on my type set (1792-1964 with gold).

  • I mix them on the complete type set for cost reasons, but just do proofs for the modern type set.

In the CNS type set one has to mix business and proof strikes if one wants a 100% complete set. I am building a business strike set but will probably eventually add the (I think) two proof only coins I need to complete the "PCGS" type set.

  • I don't mix them since I don't collect Proofs. Only business strikes for this collector!
  • As Rella already said, there are several coins of which only proofs were made, and if you want that specific year for your type set for some reason or other, then you have no choice but to mix them; which, in my case, i do.
