Proof Sets in Original Wrapping or Plastic?

Is it better to keep early proof sets in their original wrappings or switch to the plastic (Capital) holders?
The pre-55's were wrapped in material harmful to the coins. The later "flat packs" don't have as much curb appeal from a display standpoint. Auctions with "in the box" or "in the envelope" seem to go higher?
Would you / should you
a) switch all
b) switch pre-55
c) switch none
Thanks
