My brown Lincolns

As some of you know, I've been diligently working on a PCGS/NGC MS Brown lincoln set for about the last year. It posses a challenge because there are so few high end brown cents in holders. Most PCGS pops are below 5 in MS65BN. I posted this in another thread, but I thought I might start a new one with it also:
1909 NGC MS66BN
1909-VDB NGC MS66RD Place holder until I can "upgrade" to brown
1909-S NGC MS65BN
1909-S VDB PCGS MS65BN
1910 NGC MS66BN If you look at none of the others, look at this one!
1910-S PCGS MS64BN 64RB IMHO
1911-D PCGS MS65BN 64BN IMHO
1912 PCGS MS65BN Pop 1/0 in PCGS BN!
1914 NGC MS65BN Scratch above the date is on the holder.
1914-S PCGS MS65BN
1916 PCGS MS64BN
1917 PCGS MS65BN
1918 PCGS MS64RB 65BN IMHO
1918-D NGC MS64BN
1919 PCGS MS64BN 65+BN IMHO, have sent it in to PCGS 3 times, body bagged first, 64BN'd second, Grade reveiw with no success, this coin blows away most of the PCGS 65BN's I own, but how many fees can you blow on a $20 coin based on principal???
1919-S PCGS MS65BN
1920 NGC MS64BN 65BN IMHO
1920-S PCGS MS65BN
1921-S PCGS MS64BN
1922-D PCGS MS65BN
1923 PCGS MS65BN
1926 NGC 65RD PQ, placeholder until I can "upgrade" to BN. The common dates are the hardest bn's to find... in PCGS or NGC.
1928-D NGC MS64BN
1929-D PCGS MS65BN

You've landed on one of my favorite side hobbies. Generally if I purchase a coin from the 40's or 50's (and, some 60's) that the holder states is BR or RD/BR I'm assured of some beautiful toning! Not always, of course, but those neat surprises are out there.
I'd much rather have a copper with character than a RED one I need to be concerned is going to turn on me within the holder.

Thanks. I've worked hard on it. I have a few bn ones from the later dates. From 1930 and up, I'm going for 66RD (except the 31-D and 31-S, which I'll settle for 65RD's). You get the most eye-appeal for the buck at those levels. And it's just not a good investment to slab late date Brown Cents. I can justify the pre-30 cheap ones to maintain a well matched set. Man, there's something about slabbing a brown 1952-D that doesnt seem right. It would have to have some pretty special colors.

Thanks. Yah, that sucker is nice. The brown luster is superb. You should see it in real life.

I know what you mean about a matching set. That is why I decided on an all RED set of Proofs(1936-1958).I'm going for DCAM 1959-present.I might go for RB 1909-1916.Not sure yet.

The "matched set" is one of the reasons I'm going with all browns. Man, nothing beats a well matched set, no matter what the color designation. The reds are REALLY nice, but I have caviar tastes with a hamburger budget. There are two really big drawbacks to collecting browns. The first is the distinct lack of intrest in brown cents by upper level collectors, This makes it a little more difficult to sell them if you need to. The second is the stunted potential inflation of them. Lets face it, BN's will never be as desired as RD's. And the reds have a much greater potential to go up. ...and the past two years have really shown this.
Ironicly, the biggest drawback is also one of the biggest benifits. No one wants them. Compaired to reds of the equivilant grade, browns are extreamly "Cheap." I know that cheap is a relative term. Let's put it this way, there's not a single non-error "finest known" brown that I couldnt buy if I really wanted it. Unless it's made after 1933, I cant say that about too many reds.
Goodluck with the Mattes. Man, Reds on those are pert-near impossible. You can find some dates in RD with spots. But if you want something nice that's red, they cost a small fortune. And dates like the 1916 and VDB... they're pricey even when they're ugly. I think RB is the best bang for the buck on those. But then... like I said, I have a burger budget.

I also like Gem Brown coins!! It is impossible to buy or find a gem set.I own a 16 d in 65 bn,a 19 s in 65 bn and the Eliasberg 27 s in 65 bn as well as the 27 d in 66 bn.

Wow, those are nice gems to own, espeically the 27-S. But I'm sure they dont compair to those Reds of yours.
Is the 19-S PCGS? If so, we own 2 of the 3 brown gems for that date.
