This stuff needs to be stopped...

EBAY sellers that are totally misrepresenting PRO graded cards as PSA cards need to have some heat applied to them. I understand key word spamming...but this takes it one step further by calling individual cards PSA. Most people are smart enough to know the difference...but it only takes one fool looking for a bargain. See the link below:

That is blatant gross misrepresentation, with emphasis on the GROSS!!!
Also, I believe this is the first time I have ever seen 2 PRO graded cards graded less than 9 in the same place at the same time. image

I sent the seller the following email....

Why do you state that the cards are graded by PSA but you have a picture of cards graded by PRO? Are you including both the PRO and PSA versions in your lot?

Thanks- I look forward to your reply.

  • I wholeheartedly agree

It's too bad that PSA is more concerned with deleting threads on the CU forum that factually report the figures of MileHigh's auction and criticize the poor spelling in the catalog, on the erroneous theory that PSA's brand name is under fire, and the fact that MileHigh paid PSA to distribute their catalog with the SMR (my supposition), than protect the vast majority of dealers and collectors who have a substantial investment in PSA holders only to see on ebay BVG 7.5 = PSA 8, PRO 9 = PSA 9, BGS9 = PSA 10, and other spamming, etc. without ANY action on PSA's part.

No only does that debase the value of the PSA brand name, but does a far greater disservice to the neophyte collector who now has implanted in his mind that there is nothing special about a PSA slab, or that it is a lesser quality product.

It's a given that PSA has a direct line to ebay and could take the necessary action to put a halt to this nonsense if PSA was so inclined. I'm sure that the usual "we don't have the time or resources available to police ebay" excuse would be forthcoming, but such action would show that PSA is determined to protect their brand name.

    z,

But who would you vote for in the Hall of Fame? Albert Belle or Don Mattingly or neither?

    acowa,

I reported this too. Thanks for the link. This is annoying. But it is also annoying that it
took me a few minutes to figure out who to notify ebay.

What happened to the thread on mile high? All I read was some complaints about grammer/spelling I think (the grammer police piss me off anyhow, I hated English class) and some discussions about prices being down. Frankly, who's embarrassed if prices are down 10-20%? Look at the stock market - I'm IMPRESSED by an "investment" that's down 10-20% in the last 2-3 years...
Why do I get the feeling, that some cards are worth money, while others are not?

Lately I've been seeing a guy advertising 1972s as MINT - PSA9. . .only to look at the scan and it's just in a Card Saver. I've learned to avoid his auction titles because I've seen a few of them, but I find this to be even worse.

Something I thought was interesting was that in the auction Alan posted, even in the body of the page he lists the PGS cards as being PSA. Looking at his past transactions, it's mostly teddy bears - but he did buy a couple 70T that actually were PSA-graded. So the guy should at least have some idea of the difference.

No doubt about it. This is blatant Key Word Spamming.

I'm also getting pretty tired of the Pro sellers who sell a vintage Pro HOF card and throw in a dirt cheap PSA graded modern card so that they can put PSA in the title. Technically, it's not Key Word Spamming, but it's the biggest Bait and Switch trick on eBay right now.

"I have set a reserve of $1,600 to protect my investment, but can honestly say that you will not find a better 1970 baseball set in one place at one time."

Anyone want to bet? I have one about 5 feet from me right now (all in one place at the same time) and I think there's another set out there that may even be better! image

By the way, the cards in the auction are not PRO graded. For what it's worth, they are graded by PGS - Professional Grading Service.

EBAY used to police this before. I used to bid on auctions and then they had suddenly disappeared because they were a misrepresentation of the PSA name.

Why did this policy stop ... did PSA discontinue pursuing this or did EBAY?

Why were the threads on MileHigh pulled?

The keyword spamming also happens a lot in modern cards to BGS. They also elect to do nothing about it. I am not so certain there is an easy solution.

If more efforts were made to stop this kind of activity (instead of monitoring legitimate discussions regarding PSA dealers and auctions) Collectors Universe might be in much better shape today.

I wonder what could have possibly held it back from getting a 9.9 from PRO? There must be something seriously wrong with the card. image

That Mantle is almost borderless. Maybe I should pick up some of those '52 Topps "I cut the borders off them when I was a kid so I could glue them in my scrapbook" cards and get them graded. Though they'd probably get bumped to an 8 based on the tape residue.
  • That's a good Gary Moser trim job !!!!
