Does anyone like the CAM possibilities on this $3.25 Jeff from 1957?

Anyone? The proof 1957 Jeff is the key to the early series in CAM ...

Looks pretty good to me -

you must have many on hand, how does it compare with your others?

I always get fooled with lighting on these - some photographers can make a coin look DCAM when it won't even make CAMimage

I agree with your observations on images, but at $3, I do not have much invested. Won in online auction, coin not in hand yet.
  • Geez, Randy, you are finding them! Pretty soon you will find a DCAM like DHeath did with his SMS Kennedy. I'd guess that is a solid cameo though you will know when you get it. '57 is a tough date!! Congrats.
  • How much was shipping? Was that $3 with shipping? I won a (super DCAM, Ultra Frosty) '71s for $2 but had to pay $1 for shipping. The coin came wrapped in a few folds of paper then scotch taped inside an envelope image It was also barely cam...

Agreed, you never know, Carl ... seller confirmed coin was one pictured and came in the pictured plastic holder (outsized though it may be, hope coin does not slide around...). Shipping was $2. I am not sweating $5.25, but do hope coin is securely packaged ... I have received so-so coins very carefully and protectively packed and very nice coins in cardboard 2x2s just thrown loose into an envelope. It takes so little time and effort to securely package a coin, I am amazed at how cavalier some sellers are in shipping ... You, of course, Carl, care about what you ship.

    hey randy

probably not cameo, it looks to have frost breaks on the portrait. one thing i've noticed is that when the jeff's tone like this, the fields are always too hazed to receive the designation. a wash to clear and strenthen the mirrors will usually result in the portrait losing what appears as frost. i've had that happen with several early 60's coins. they acquire that blue color and seem to be heavily frosted. when dipped to help the mirrors, the color is lost and the cameo suffers. i've learned to keep them as is.

You may well be right, Al, but for $5, I'm willing to find out ... have another raw '57 that will be on the way to PCGS soon. The obverse is no doubt CAM, the reverse is borderline ... we shall see. And, I honestly, sincerely believe I have a raw $9 1959 PR-67 DCAM that will be accompanying it.
  • You really are on a roll! Keep it up.

i like your spirit, randy. and your approach. and i can only agree with anyone who figures there are nice CAM/DCAM coins from the late 50' out there. we just need to each pick up the pace and find 'em.
