1995 Lincoln Cent DDO

Picked up a 1995 Lincoln Doubled Die Obverse in PCGS MS68RD from a major internet dealer. Not being a Lincoln or die variety collector, I bought it solely because it was my youngest daughter's birth year and I am putting together a few of these for the kids. When I looked at the coin I was amazed at how weak the doubling is on this coin. There is but a faint echo of doubling around the Liberty and the motto.

Though I really didn't expect anything like the monster doubling on the 1955 [my birth year], I wonder why they even bother to emphasize the variety by including the DDO designation on the slab.

As far as I'm concerned, the only significant doubling is THE 1955, and maybe the 1972.
    Everything else is irrelevant.
  • When you look at the quality control of the modern mint, It is almost impossible for a coin like the 95DDO to get out. image

The 1955 (and 1972) spoil you for all the others. A few of the other major DDO's are on this page, most of which require sharp eyes or magnification to appreciate.

I'm with ER. Other than the 1955 and 1972 DDOs, the rest pale by comparison.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

If you get the real deal in a 1995, you will get one like the 1955 and 1972 DDO. You probably got one with minimal doubling.......Ken

I too bought a MS68 `95 DDO ,in NGC plastic. And I also noticed the doubling isnt as dramatic as I,d hoped for,but nonetheless I have a true doubled die coin now.
Something I would also like to know is, about how many `95 P DDOs` are there out there and how many `95 D DDOs`.
Lastly, how could it be that the DDO is in both P and D mint marks. Shear coincedence? The Ds seem to be more scarce and valuable.
The most dramatic doubling on a Zincoln may be the `83 DDR. THAT you CAN see without a glass.

The 95P ddo doesn't have the spread that the 55 or 72 does, but it's still a pretty nice one. All of the 95P ddos will have the same spread, though, since they were all struck from the same die.

Cam, I'd have to say lots of the 95Ps and not many of the 95Ds... image
...and that is was just a coincidence.
