Which colonial coin influenced U.S. coinage the most?

How about the New Jersey copper with its "E Pluribus Unum," or the Massachusetts coins with their eagle?
Were there any lessons learned from the colonial days as far as coins are concerned (i.e., what NOT to put on a coin)?

Are you asking about coins only minted in the colonies, or any coins that circulated in the colonies? If it is the latter,
I would say the Spanish pillar dollar was the most influential coin.

Yes, the busts of presidents. Unfortunately, that was lost in 1909.
