1968-S Proof Set..........

in the guide it shows two sets.. one is 1968-S Proof Set, No S and other is 1968-S Proof Set. What is the difference? I have quite a number of these sets but would not know the diffence in the 2 to save my life.

A few were produced where the coins lacked the S mintmark- they are rare, and they are worth a lot.

I believe it's the dime that's missing the "s" mint mark.

And yes, it's the rarest and most valuable set by far in the 1950+ group of proof sets.

Dpoole is correct that it's just the dime, but I believe the 1975 no S set is rarer and more expensive.

I do love this place but unfortunately all have S so I guess I am not rich yet. Any idea on a 1998 $5 Gold Eagle Proof coin from the mint.

All of the 1968 proof coins appear as double dies. Some have several different
double dies. There is a neat upside down "S" on some half dollars. These coins
sometimes appear as cameo and can be tough in higher grades.

The $5 1998 proof had a relatively low mintage (39,706), but there are later dates with lower numbers. I'm unaware of anything special about the 1998 $5 proof.

I was just curious I am going through coins here tonight and If you could see the mess on my bed right now you would be amazed. I use to do this with my grandfather so its almost a sacred thing going through my coins I inherited most of them and decided to keep the collection going.
