One Red Man Card's Journey

Grandpa passed on last year, and Granny gave me an envelope that he had kept in a drawer for 50 years. Lo and behold, there was a mint condition 1952 Red Man card inside!

I submitted the card to Sgc, but alas, received a grade of Sgc 86. Since I already had the card in a higher grade, and since Granny would never find out, I advertised the card on Ebay as a sure Psa 8 candidate and sold it to collector.

The collector broke the Red Man card out of the holder, and submitted it to Psa. I guess he was disappointed in the Psa 7 grade it received, because I saw the card listed on Ebay. I couldn't understand why a dealer bought the Red Man card at such a high price.

A short time later, I saw Grandpa's Red Man card in auction. It was in a Psa 8 holder. The bidding was furious. I couldn't believe such a high price!

Two weeks later, the same dealer offered to sell me the Red Man card that he just "sold" in his auction.

I didn't buy Grandpa's Red Man card, but a friend did. He collects only Sgc cards, so he crossed it over, and got a Sgc 92!

Well, his set is all Sgc 88's, and he really didn't need such a high graded card, so I convinced him to sell it to me because if I could get the Red Man card crossed over to a Psa 9 it would be worth a fortune!

So i sent Grandpa's card in to Psa's new crossover service, and I got the card back today, 'No Grade-Evidence of Trimming"!

I just called Grandma to see how she was doing. She asked me how I was enjoying Grandpa's card.

<< <i>...By the way, I am not a PSA hater. I happen to own a large amount of PSA graded cards and I am a shareholder in the company. But this is an issue that concerns me. >>

I'm really surprised something like this could happen....

I would think a shareholder in the company would support that company's product...

I took it as some sort of ridicule or criticism towards me because of my previous thread.

    Tony,

When I read the post, I honestly didn't feel it was mocking you. I felt it was mocking the entire graded card crossover/upgrade game scam in general. I guess because he used a RedMan card in his example it's easy to make the assumption that it's personal. The original post would be funny if it didn't have so much truth to it.

Either way, your point about cards getting significant upgrades was an interesting read.

  • djb77,

He is not a new member. His status thing says that he has been here since December 2001. That's 13 months longer than you have been here.

  • you are correct, however i think its safe to say that this id is one that someone has made to make inflammatory statements behind the curtain of anonymity.
  • You are probably right, djb77.

Sorry to the guy that wrote this. I guess I need to develop a better sense of humor.

    Acowa,

You were right. Kind of funny when you read it as the joke it was meant to be....
