Here is a slightly harder question:


It is generally considered that coin collecting (gold coins in particular) in America did not become popular until the mid to late 1850's. There were however four high profile collectors that all formed very impressive collections including many rare early proof coins and rare date early dated gold pieces and patterns prior to the 1850's. One of these men had nearly 1/2 his collection stolen in 1867 or thereabout, another had his collection auctioned in 1907, and the two others were both assayers of the US mint at one time.

Who were these 4 men??
