Soliciting comments/suggestions on my ebay listing...

I have recently put a listing on ebay. I would really appreciate any Board members comments on style, pictures, shipping/handlig/insurance, etc., since this is my first attempt at selling on ebay, though I've been buying for a couple of years now.

Thanks for your time and thoughts!

Mike

Looks good. But it seems as though you described one of the dealers in my town.

Mike, I like your Ebay listing.

    I have two questions/comments:

    1) Some bidders also prefer to see an image of the coin in the holder - no big deal to me since you included good images and the PCGS ID#, but it might make a difference to some potential bidders. I don't know if the extra time and effort would be worth it or not, though - that is for you to decide.

    2) Why not just decide upon the exact fee you will add on for insurance and list that, rather than an estimate of $1.30? If, for instance, you state that there will be an additional charge of $1.30, 1.50, or whatever for insurance, people will know ahead of time, what the exact charge will be. Don't worry if the amount you decide upon turns out to be off by 10c, either way, from the actual cost.

    Good luck.

Looks better than most. I see 2 things that could be improved. Put up a picture of the whole slab to go with your nice pictures and change your PayPal preferences to automatic logos that turn into a PayNow link when the auction closes.
The part about the "scathing negative feedback" had me roflmao.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

This is nothing against you Coppernicus, so please don't take this negatively in any way. I am just dazed and confused at how someone else besides me, places an ebay link for one of their auctions in the US Coin Forum asking for honest opinions (I plainly see no other motives myself) and receives accolades and tips and opinions and not one, "spam" comment.

    YOU guys are incredible.

    Morris,

I think/hope I can clear up the confusion for you. Your reputation for spam preceded you when you posted links to your Ebay sales. Mike did not have such a reputation when he posted. image

    Morris,

The difference is that this is the very first time he's placed a listing as a seller.

Yeah Morris! Why are you the only one making spam comments? Do you begrude us helping him out? He said it was his first auction as a seller so I checked his feedback and sure enough 279 all of them as a BUYER.

  • Good listing. As others have said, put pic of slab. Drop the negative feedback comment. You're going to loose bidders. I would not bid on a coin with that kind of feedback warning. Portrays you as vengeful, and would be afraid that somehow my check would be lost in the mail and have to deal with and RETURN YOUR FEEDBACK!! Just makes you look like you have hair-trigger if something goes wrong with auction. I think you may have been trying to make a point but way too strong. Too bad you have bid, can't change it now, but you have lost potential bidders, hence less for your coin. JMHO as a Power Seller as most on boards are.

What do you mean my reputation for spam, I posted once in the US Forum, items for sale, because I did not know the rule, then stopped. My next listing, was the same as Coppernicus, asking for opinions, and you jumped all over me. I am wondering why you would think that I was trying to spam, when asking for opinions in the same manner Coppernicus was?

While I don't neccessarily have a problem with the link, the problem lies within the stereotyping that was done. It has been clearly stated that people don't like it when links to one's own auction are posted in the US Forum, because it is not the right forum. Whether or not it is his first listing as a seller (again, I would have no problem placing an opinion) I think the beef I have is that he was not directed to the appropriate forum as I and others have been done.

I think the auction looks great. Picture looks good, the only thing I am wondering about, and it seems to happen on some photos I do, is that the shadow on the obverse takes up about 30% of the coin, but on the reverse, it does not look like there is a shadow at all. I guess it has to do with the angle of light hitting the coin, but don't understand why it happens to one side and not the other, and why it seems to happen more on the obverse.

  • Morris.......look at it like the 1st one is on the house, so to speak. It was his first listing......and wanting to pick from the wisdom and joint experiences of forum members is not out of line in this case. (IMHO).

When i listed my 1st one.........a whole lot of questions in my mind followed. Did i do it right? Could i have done it better? Should i add to the description more.....etc. Seems like just a learning curve jitters and seeking of imput here, so no biggie.

    Do it again......Banned! image

I thought the feedback comment was funny and took it as humor but I think tgilliams is right. Some bidders may take offense to it. The remark about the dealers was funny too but you may have dealers bidding as well so you don't want to offend them either. Some people are more senstive than others and your main objective is to make them ALL want to send you their hard earned $$$. image

Overall, I like the listing. I agree with earlier comments about the negative feedback. Plenty of people have no sense of humor, and you may discourage them from bidding. Regarding the picture, I'm not a Lincoln guy, but I think it has too much of an orange cast to it. How many of you would think it's been dipped, if presented as a raw coin, rather than a PCGS coin?

Love the humor and great pix.

Personally, if you have scared any bidders off with the humor, then more power to you! You wouldn't want to be dealing with peeps who just can't take a joke anyway! Look at some of the other auctions out there - there are a lot that are even more abusive and blatant than what is said in these auctions and I never see those guys loosing business over it, so I wouldn't worry about that.

I guess that is your opinion, and you are obviously entitled to that, no matter how wrong it is. I have had several people let me know that they appreciate me placing links to my auctions when they are up. I guess since there are many people that have asked me to continue to do so, then it can't really be considered spam.

Morris, I count, not one, but three posts of items you had for sale here. The first link below was for items listed directly for sale on this forum and the other two were links to some of your Ebay listings.

Don't feel bad - no one has a perfect memory. I certainly don't - I had to look this up to be sure.

I don't see this thread as breaking rules. We are discussing coins, "how to"

The auction looks good. I'm not comfortable with your threat (although lyrical) of negative feedback for nonpaying bidders. That is a known, and it is your right to apply. Seems it would provoke a defensive reaction in even trust worthy bidders.

As usual, the Board members have come through with some excellent suggestions! Thanks to all who participated. I will be incorporating many of these suggestions/ideas into my future auctions.

BTW, my future auctions will NOT be advertised here, nor will I solicit any opinions on the listings here. I know the protocol on this forum and just want to say thanks to all of you who supported my sincere quest for helpful suggestions. For those of you that saw my thread as spam, well I'm sorry you forgot to take your good judgement pill yesterday morning. Remeber, one a day!! image

To Mike and those who participated in this thread,

I think has been a fine example of how someone can benefit from the experience, knowledge and help available on this forum. There were, along with some differing opinions (all of which I think had some merit) some excellent suggestions, which Mike will undoubtedly, make the most of. And, credit goes to him, for listening and keeping an open mind. Well done, everyone.
