What does "In The Grading Room" Mean to You Pros

Called PCGS to see the progress of my free submission. It is day 12 and was told it was "In The Grading Room". I asked if it would be done in a day or two and she said more like a week or two. That puzzled me. How much stuff is in the grading room that it takes a week or two to get done once it is there.

Can someone shed some light on the process for me. This is only my second submission to PCGS.

Thanks.

Lori

BTW: It was my free submission and she said that is running between 15 - 21 business days with no guarantee.

In the grading room doesn't necessarily mean the coins are being graded. It just means they're closer than they were when the receptionist got them in the mail. image Besides, even after they're graded, they still have to be finalized, and than slabbed. Her time frame sounds about right.

I'll second what Russ said. All that you were told sounds correct and up-front. The grading room is similar to the panic room...actually may be one in the same now that I think about it.image

Isn't that like "in production" or "on the factory floor"
    just a working term.
we all really know what it means (wait).

    I don't buy slabs I make them

Once in the grading room, a long way from Lori's mailbox

Need to be graded by the graders

Crosses the hall to the slabbing room (and sometimes the add a fingerprint room)

    Then to shipping

    Then to post office

You should see your coins by July Lori - if you want fast, stick to ANACS -> PCGS is just too good to be fast, and if you want fast - just pay more (what does a coin have to be worth to pay $100 for 1 day service)?

    Yep, it's like step 2 of 5.
