High grade crossovers

Have acquired about 25 cards now for the crossover service. Most are SGC 96's and 98's and a few BVG 10's. Does anyone have any results on trying to crossover 9's and above?

    DO NOT SEND GAI CARDS TO PSA FOR CROSSOVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE FOR OBVIOUS POLITICAL AND EMOTIONAL REASONS!image
  • I disagree. I recently sent a 1959 GAI 8 Bob Thurman for crossover service and they promptly gave it a PSA 8 The same invoice I sent a BCCG 10 (yep, but the card was sweet) and it crossed over to a PSA 9.

    I have also sent SGC 98 and gotten PSA 9s & SGC 96s and gotten PSA 8s. I sent an SGC 96 1980 #400 George Foster for and it came back a PSA 10 (the only one out there so far)

    Its a question of the card NOT the SLAB.

    JeffVN-Thanks for posting that information. I sent quite a few this past month and I was wondering how everybody else had done.

    Fuzz- I should be getting back a few SGC to PSA crossovers in the next few weeks and I'll get the board updated as to how I do. I normally don't submit much, but out of the 50 or so cards I've submitted over the past 3 years, I've never gotten anything back in less than a 9 (probably just jinxed myself by saying that).

    TRUE

    except for GAI***

    you got lucky I think being as they hate each other and it shows!
    That is what I meant by the politics.plastic=politics especially when it's dependant on companies.
  • While I understand it normally the card, not the slab, this does not appear to be a normal curcumstance. It is just not possible to see the card as well in anyone's holder as it is with the card raw. So some faith has to be put on what the label says. The question really becomes in my case, how readily are they going to put a very high grade on card without a good chance to look it over?

    Fuzz-I agree. Let's say they have a card graded by another company that they deem to be legit based on viewing inside the holder. Except when it is removed from the holder it becomes clear that there is trimming on the top edge. What will happen then? They will not be able to put the card in a PSA holder nor put it back in the other companies holder.
  • Fuzz, did you mean to say a few BCCG 10's? I have never seen a BVG 10 and wasn't aware one existed.

    Are these via the new cross program, I assume that most of these were cracked by the submitter? I would be interested to see if PSA is influenced by SGC's grade. Will PSA offer cross over reviews on site?

    aro, I was talking to Beckett at the National about their crossover service. In Beckett's crossover, you are just out of luck if they crack it and then realize it's not good enough. I'm not sure about PSA's crossover though.

    You can specify minimum grade and PSA will return the card to you, without cracking it, if they don't feel it's that grade. I've had good luck with vintage SGC 96 crossing to PSA 9; even had an SGC 92 make it to PSA 9. Make sure the centering is good, however, otherwise they won't cross over.

    Always looking for 1957 Topps BB in PSA 9!
  • Butcher,
    You are right, it is not a BVG but a BCCG. Whatever the heck those are. I really only collect PSA and bought these three BCVGCCG whatevers because the price was good or at least I thought (Topps Gannon rookies BCCG 10 --- all three for $8). Will try and see how it goes.

  • I will be sending these off to PSA in the next couple of weeks just to see what PSA does with them. If one of the comes back a 9, I would be happy due to what I payed for them. If you had to guess which one would be a miscut or 9 which one would it be?

    1979 Topps GEM MINT 10 Brock

    1979 Topps GEM MINT 10 Jackson All Star
    Currently Building the 1979 Topps Baseball set in PSA 9
  • My predictions:

    Munson = PSA 8
    Brock = PSA EVID TRIM (top edge on the right)
    Reggie = PSA 8
