Why is "monster toning" worth alot more than original ordinary toning if....

The strike, surface quality, luster are the same "high end quality for the grade", now i'm not talking about generic quality crapola, but high end, original pretty coins that may even have color but just maybe not rainbow monster color. This would not include morgan dollars as rainbow morgans have a following of their own. Les

Maybe because it is more unique? Find me a quality coin and I can probably find a few that are nicely toned, but rarely will I find multiple, look-alike WOWSERS.

...........you kind of just answered your own question.....{because its not ordinary}....... thats the diffrence....monsters stand far above the ordinary ones, thus most of the time will command a much higher price.........image

Ron, i fully understand paying more for high end eye appealing coins, i don't by coins that don't have eye appeal, where i get off is spending 10 or 20 x as much because the color is better.

I would much rather have i high end coin at 20 % above grey sheet than either genaric crap at under blue sheet, or a rainbow toned coin at 10 x bid, but i would rather pay 1200 dollars for a beautiful original barber quarter than the same price for a monster toned ms 64 1881s morgan, or a better analogy would be i'd rather have a pretty original 81 s morgan with pretty color for 70 bucks than either an ugly dipped out one for 30 bucks, or a rainbow toned one for 1200 bucks [all graded the same]

Genaric qualty coins bore me, but monster pricing is also scary to me. Untill the day comes where i can't get high end original coins with pretty color without paying multiples of bid, i will continue to collect high end classic coins wih pretty eye appealing color, full luster, sharp strikes and clean surfaces that have a price tag thats not "somewhere over the rainbow" Les

Because "Monster" is a hype word that does not really describe any particular type of toning but is used to try to lure in the unknowledgeable collector/investor to grossly over pay for a toned coin.
