Cards sent in for re-grading

What kind of experiences has anybody had with sending cards in for a second look? I've got some 57 Topps basketball that imho should be 8's that were graded 7's. It was part of an order that I felt I received lesser grades across the board. I believe this happened, taking the cynical viewpoint, because I sent a bunch of 48 Bowmans in and that 4 came back with "evidence of trimming", which I wasn't able to detect. I do have some grey background bowmans with the movie star misprint on the backs that I knew one was trimmed when I bought it but wanted it for the novelty appeal.

Maybe the grader got pissed thinking I had trimmed the cards and was trying to blow something by him and he was going to show me by downgrading my order. I don't know.

One suggestion that someone had was crack the cards out, get a pre-grade from gai and then send them in again to PSA. What do you think?

I regrade all the time. It usually turns out good unless you catch the same grader or a worse grader. You could wind up be into them for more grading fees and have worse grades the second time around. I only do it if I am for sure that is was undergraded and the value of the card warrants the extra fee.
  • When you re-grade do you crack them out and send them back in or do you send them in holdered for review. Thanks.
  • A bit off the topic of the thread, I'm also a 48 Bowman and 57 Topps basketball collector. I might be interested in greybacks and 57 topps stuff buying/trading whatever. Drop me an email if interested. Harold (hbsturn@hotmail.com)

I believe the concensus on these boards regarding this is to crack them out and resubmit.
