Population Report-PDA program?

As I prepare for this year's national, I am trying to figure out a convenient way of accessing the population report without carrying a binder around the show. Has anyone successfully loaded the population report on their PDAs in a manner that can easily be updated? Mike Castaldi opened my eyes last year in Chicago when he could store Microsoft Excel Tables on to his PDA for easy retrieval. Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Hey Ron,

I've experimented with spreadsheets on my Palm with mixed results. I also was tired of the stack of papers I used to carry with me. I downloaded a 3rd party product to emulate Excel spreadsheets(can't recall the name). It worked, I copied the POP report and SMR into an Excel spreadsheet, downloaded it to my Palm and bingo I was able to view everything.....BUT it was SLOOOOOW and with the minimal width of the Palm, scrolling was a bear. So I scraped the spreadsheet program and went back to KISS(Keep it simple stupid).

I took the regular Excel spreadsheet and eliminated all columns I didn't care about. For example on the POP report I kept the Player name, card number and POP for the 8's only. Then I just cut and pasted this data into a new Memo(actually it was enough data to have to create 2 separate memos, each memo has a memory maximum). It is much faster and more concise, only the data I really care about. And it works great after my first try at the latest Ft. Washington show. I also made a spreadsheet of the set with the registry weighting and marked with ones I had already. I just prop the Palm next to me and I have a small wantlist I can easily scan while looking through binders.

Let me know if you have any questions....

    Good Luck!

  • The 53kid,

Thanks for the advice. I downloaded a trial version of a program from the "Palm" website that enables transfer of excel and Word documents. I'll follow your suggestions on downloading the pop report and let you know how it works. Thanks again!

My PDA had a web browser built in, but that has the same problems as using a spreadsheet: the screen is just too small and you have to scroll a lot. How about keeping a hard copy of the one or two sets you think you'll need the most, and use the PDA for the rest?

  • Here is the actual program is used, called QuickSheet.

    QuickSheet

Free demo version for 30 days....It installed and worked fine, just too "bulky" for my needs. I wanted a quicker and cleaner lookup. And sync time was slow. But if you par down the overall spreadsheet it should help.

    Good Luck,
