Is the Bicentennial quarter getting scarce in unc?

Obviously with a million and a half still sitting around in 1975 and 1976 mint sets
the coin is no great rarity. What I'm wondering about is the eighty million or so
that were stashed away in bags and rolls back in '75-'77. The examples in circu-
lation have been wearing out much more slowly than other coins from this era. This
must mean the bicentennial coins are being repeatedly being horded by those who
value them more than other quarters. They then eventually release them back to
circulation where they are found in higher grade than other equally old coins. This
opinion is consistent with the fact that these coins only show up in circulation about
one third as frequently as they should based on their mintages and attrition.

Many of these are found in real nice AU or slider unc still. It's hard to believe that
these have circulated until quite recently. The wholesale price of circs is $11.50 and
uncs are $12. Are tired longs so pervasive that these coins won't be exceedingly com-
mon?
