AT Peace anyone?

Dog97Dog97 Posts: 7,874 ✭✭✭
Some that I have picked up over the years.
I'm pretty sure they are all AT but several have recently been sent to a major service just to double check myself since I'm quick to yell AT when somebody posts an AT coin.
Anybody see anything that may be "original" that I misjudged?

  • The next to last 1922 looks pretty good! Which ones did you send in? image

I agree, the 6th one down, looks nice.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I think the 3rd one "might" have a chance. I wish the 6th one could make it into a holder. It is really pretty, though I'm sure it will not be considered market acceptable. Did they go to NGC?

SCAM!!!!! I can't see them real close but the 1922 4th one from top might not be a bad coin. I won't call it pretty but most aren't. But hey as they say on this board "if you're happy and you like them that's all that matters." Right?

The 3rd one might work, but the toning is not attractive. The reverse of the last one has a color I've never seen before. Where did that orange color on the eagle come from?

Dog97 -- They are on their way! image The first batch has been sent to PCGS. Now all we have to do is wait a gazillion days and we'll know for sure!

As for my "educated guess" and since I've seen most of these in person --

    #1 screaming AT

    #2 AT

    #3 NT

    #4 NT

    #5 NT

#6 Borderline NT but probably AT

#7 The nicest one of the bunch, even nicer in person. A vibrant coin with great luster. My hunch is that it's AT but it could be market acceptable and might even be envelope toning - hence the orange only on the high points, but where the powder blue came from is anyone's guess.

By the way are you still selling it to me if it comes back in a slab? image

  • My guess is that 3 and 6 will make it but probably not the rest. I think 6 makes it because I picked up an 1885-O graded MS-63 by PCGS (Green Holder) that looks almost identical.

Thanks for the opinions guys. I see a lots of "mights" & "maybes" in your replies and I feel the same way. The best one is questionable at best.
    Here's what I think:
#1 No brainer AT. AU & covered with hairlines. Clearly cleaned & retoned.
#2 Probably naturally ugly natural but won't slab.
    #3 Same thing.
#4 Slim chance. Copper colored area dribbling down to IGWT makes it look bad.
#5 Probably has the best chance of them all to slab.
#6 A sneaky one like you guys are always posting & asking if it's AT. Blue, purple & rose colors just don't look right to me.
#7 My favorite one but I think it a sulphur of liver job.
I don't really remember which ones I sent but I know #7 was one.

Hmmmm .... Why would you want it knowing it's AT? And if it is NT, let the bidding war begin!!!!! By the way have you seen it in person?

(but I do really think its going to get a BB, though)

Yeah fish, actually I was sposed to send it to you after you got back from FUN. That was 2 FUNs ago. I guess you're back now huh?
It will bag though. I had sent out pictures to some top dealers & collectors to pick some AT coins for a project we're working on and that was one everybody picked. If it did by some chance holder I think it could honestly be called a true monster.

    Frattlaw,

Have not seen it in person......but I like every scan I have seen.image
It's a nice looking coin.......and would love to see it in person. The pics
I saw months ago didn't appear as green and looked to be NT.....I tried
to buy it raw but Dog would not have anything to do with it!image

We'll wait and see what happens.......image

    chance!image

I probably showed you the original camera picture that looks a little different. It looks like this or that or somewhere in btween depending on how you tilt it.

Rkfish -- it's a very electric powder blue in person. The scans make it seemed subdued. From a scan I could swear it was NT, unusual, but NT. In person though, I'm betting it gets bagged.

But if it does, but some small chance, make it into a holder, I doubt if Dog will let it go. It will be a very special Peace $ (That is of course if I actually return it to him if it gets into a slab. image It might just get lost in the mail. imageimage Of course it will be insured though! )
