5 vs 6 Full Step Jeffersons

In my opinion PCGS is the best and most consistent grader of full step Jefferson nickels in the industry. Your definition for 5 full step is right on.

Now for my question: Why not further identify 6 full step coins?

It could be as simple as:

- Less than 5 full steps no "FS" designation - no change in policy,

- 5 full steps with no nicks, bridges etc. gets a "FS" designation - no change in policy,

- 6 full steps with no nicks or bridges etc would get a "6FS" designation.

This could be an easy way for PCGS to implement the change and it would add value from a full step collector standpoint. Many Jeffersons that are common with 5 full steps may be extremely rare in 6 full steps and would command a market premium.

Frank...First...great respect from me to you for your outstanding collection.

I feel that the 6 step designation should be left to the ultra specialists at this time. I think it is similar to Mercury dimes with "full bands" and "fully rounded bands." I think the 6 steps designation might bring more confusion into the market place and may be a negative.
