RGL: Actually, that date has not moved in at least a week, suggesting stability in the pops. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Now there is a date I wish I sold a few months ago. I bought years ago. There were only 3 for years.

I just bought some rolls of proof nickels from Wayne Herndon. I didn't get a '71-S but did get '72 and '73. There are lots of cameos and maybe one or two DCAMs. No 69 DCAMS though. But it made me think there were some to be found out there.

It is a different thing looking at 1950s and earlier coins. Very few show even moderate frost.

Carl: What is your latest asking price on the 71(s) from your broken up set? How has the pop 3 going to pop 10 affected the price in your opinion?

  • Well, I was hoping you would tell me something about that Mitch. I am new to this kind of thing. I had a pop 3 for, oh I don't know, 5 years and now I have a pop 10.

I have heard that there needs to be a few coins for there to be a market. Sometimes having a few new coins available helps put the price up as people are not frustrated after years of searching...

When I bought this coin it was fresh. I had the feeling the seller was thrilled to get such a premium for the label.

I recently compared this coin to another '71 DCAM in lower grade. My 69 DCAM has much more frost and looks like later date DCAMs. It looks only marginally better than those 1950s Pr 68 DCAMs I sold recently.

I listed the '71-S on my webpage at $1,950 and would take that for it. That might be a huge steal for somebody. Or it might be half way down from the top to the bottom, on the way down. I have no idea where this coin will go and would like to hear opinions on what this coin is worth today.

However until somebody does take my 69 DCAM I am removing that '71-S in 67 DCAM from my Registry set and putting back this one in 69 DCAM as it is a much nicer coin.

Anyway my set it not that all broken up. I am only missing one date, 1960. BTW I am a buyer of 1960 PCGS PR DCAM Jeffs in 68 or below, please PM with offers.

From a pop three to a pop ten is a pretty big change. It really will depend on the
depth of the demand for these coins. If the demand is out there just waiting for
coins to fill it then the price could actually escalate, but if the demand is shallow
with few interested buyers then there can be a lot of pressure on price. Likely the
owner of these coins was waiting for the demand to materialize at this price. If he
guessed right there may be little pressure in any direction.

Any weakness at the current time will be made up in the future even if it's at a low-
er price. These are really imponderables and time will tell.

Keep in mind there are probably hundreds of collectors now who would be interested
in owning the coin at the right price. Ten years ago, you could hardly give the coin away.
