Red Man Pops - Question/Concern

A week or two ago there were problems with the pop reports. I thought this might of affected
the red man pops since I saw a handful of Psa 8's went down one in pop while the same cards increased
by one in Psa 9 grade. However, I see that a handful of these hit ebay last night.
I pm'd zardoz51 about this on April 28th. And I've was contacted by the king of red man cards
who is number one on the registry for all 4 sets. It looks like I got lucky with my guess on
who might of had the nines if they really existed!
Now to keep this set registry related, I'm working on a 53 set and would love to buy
the Joe Black to Psa 9. Especially since I lost the Psa 8 53 Black to "flyliner28." But if
I wanted that card I would of won it. Problem is I had concerns about that card too.
Trust me when I say I follow almost EVERYTHING that goes on with graded red man cards.
I followed the ebay auctions of Sgc red man's sold a couple months ago by Champs &
Bums. I know some of the winners and thought the cards might show up again.
Should I be concerned that these cards are not good nines or that there was a clich in the
pop reports for red man cards for some time period? I could bid or let the cards fall into
the hands of say "flyliner28." I'm not sure what to do.
I have a list of the other cards that went up from 8 to 9. I would love to hear an explanation
from Psa on this. I'm wondering what happened here....

That is what happened. Four eights became nines.
Kind of amazing since Psa had only graded 18 nines out of 2,024 cards before I saw this.
So you can wonder my amazement to see this take place and not be skeptical. I'll keep
most of my comments to myself and through pm and emails. But I'd love to understand
the procedure for getting cards bumped. How does one go about it and be successful
at? Especially with cards that should not go up.. ie- the Al Rosen?
Well at least there are some opportunities to buy some nice holders with Psa 9 cert#'s.
A little pricey but that might not stop the holder buyers. The bids already support mint
levels.

Aconte,
Can you give us a link or an E-Bay item number ? It would be nice to take a gander at them.
Vic
Can you explain how it's possible to breathe with your head that far up your tush?
Your comments are very inappropriate and uncalled for.
Here are the images he is referring to. I am not familiar with Red Mans so I do not see what the problem is with the cards.
Page and Rosen
It does seem that the cards will sell so obviously some collectors think the cards justify the grade.
The scan was bigger when I went to the auction first and then enlarged-item 2728771694.
Kenneth,
Thanks for clearing that up for everyone. I wasn't sure if my comments were merely mildly inappropriate or VERY inappropriate. I was going to have a sleepless night wondering ( but now i know for sure)
After thinking about the topic, I am not sure if I would be mildly p.i.s.s.e.d off OR VERY p.i.s.s.e.d off if I sold my PSA 8's to the Skerbes and had all of them magically turn up in PSA 9 holders (and suddenly worth 10-15 times the price). From your perspective, would that get you angry enough to pop your head out of there for a few minutes and scratch your noggin while wondering about how that might happen?
Let's take it a hypothetical step further and say that you had personally resubmitted the cards and had them come back as 8's before selling them. Is it possible that this might make you wentz?
I see no reason to get upset with Skerbe or Goodwin or whoever happens to be the person that benefits from the "bump".

Someone sure is getting good at getting those cards in higher-labeled holders. I wonder what their secret is? Chico -- any ideas?
This is a very big problem, PSA 9's in red mans are almost impossible to find, PSA 10's dont' exist. These cards are so sensitive to chipping/creasing/staining, etc. that a PSA 9 should be a perfect card, not a high end 8 that "squeezes" to a 9. Anyone who collects high end Red mans should be very concerned about this. As well as all PSA collectors in general.
Well put.

aro13,
As you know grading is subjective. I have 8's that could look fine in 9 holders. IMO from
looking at the scan of the Rosen the red background has enough print marks and even some
in the bio box that should not allow that to grade a 9. The first grade was probably correct.

Go up and down ebay and you'll find bids in accordance to the grade. Wasn't there a mention
of a 1957 Psa 9 Drysdale that sold for a lot of money but the card had a bad tilt? If the cards
were in 8 holders and sold for under Smr would that mean the grade was too high?
<< <i>Aconte, could you explain why you are so angry about this? Do you have a problem with Skerbe? >>
No to the first question. I have no problem with the seller of these cards.

You probably also have 8's that would not look undergraded in 7 holders.
That is true.

I feel your pain for I see it everyday in 81's.
Question-Did you submit the cards in the first place?
Matt
I remember Joe Orlando's article about cleaning up the image of the dealers at card shows. Maybe we can use the additional monies from these magical bumps to fund the project?
Has anyone asked Skerbe about the origin of these cards?
No, the cards were not mine orginally. I keep a spreadsheet on cert#'s for red man cards.
It has the breakdown of some of the cards. These were on the list. Also, I noticed the pop
changes first. I did not say anything since I wanted to see when or where these might
show up. I thought they would of had new cert#'s but they did not.
With your 81's, you might think I'm crazy but it's part of the reason I buy from you. Besides
being the 81 Guru and smooth transactions, I figure with the 81's you've seen so many that
I'll trust you over a grader. My bet is you are not given the benefit on some high grade
cards. And since it's costly to play the resubmit game for them, if you say it is high end
or a 10 in a 9 holder that is all I need to here.
Now go get me that 10 Rose in a 9 holder!

I follow ya. As for the black it appears to me to have a soft bottom right.
I find it amazing that the big cards still fall in the hands of authorized dealers,
and this is a great point of this. At one time they didn't get the nod for some
reason. Then Skerbe puts these to psa and bow now their good enough. It
baffles me with the certs being the same that is exactly what happened.
I had an experience with an 81 topps psa 10 perez. It was 1-1 at the time
I buy it unseen from shoeless. Only to get it in the mail, wow nice image
yet chipped along the bottom and a bottom right corner that you couldn't even
call it a corner. So I dig into my collection and pull out my 9. I remember some
of the folk at my place not even card collectors saying this if thats a 10 yours is
a 12.
So I lugged it down to chicago last summer with my 9 on the back of the 10. I
show it to Joe he uttered something to the effect that the corner was still a corner
do to the chipping along the bottom border. I said OK then flip it over and tell me
whats wrong with my 9. He answers back to me ah nothing. He returns 10 minutes
later with now 2-10's. I said to him don't you want to crack that one out a put it
in it's correct holder. He answers back it still justifies a 10. I was astonished that
they would let that ride in a 10 holder so there you have it a high end 10 and a
high end 8 in a 10 holder.
For if I was made of money I would crack it out and send in the dead flip. But I'm
not so I put it on ebay with a 300 dpi scan and label it as a 10 and let the cert
buyers take over.
The Black looks like the one VSI (or some dealer from east coast) had on ebay in January/Feb. Not sure about the Rosen.
Was it in an 8 holder or a 9?
It's mildly, no actually it's VERY hard to relax when this All Star cast of guests & topics keeps getting more exciting by the minute.
Let me pour you a nice tall glass of kool aid, my friend.
