Found something! I did a search in yahoo, but nothing came up. Then, believe it or not, I typed in "www.bunkerhillrarecoin" and POW....there it was. The site says that they have been "New England's largest provider of numismatic brokerage since 1988". What in the heck does that mean? Numismatic brokerage?? The largest.......yet nobody here has heard of them??? DorkKarl, why do you ask the question?

They say they are located at the base of the Bunker Hill Monument.
Until recently, I used to own Real Estate at that same location and never heard or saw anything claiming to be Bunker Hill Rare Coins.
I was also born in Charlestown and know the city very well, so if they are there it is a puzzle to me. I might call them on Monday and see whats up.

Zerbe, thanks for the insight. I noticed on their web site that they don't show an actual image of a building, but rather some sort of painting of a street scene. I also don't see an actual street address on the web site. Hmmmm. Maybe they have cell phones and they just walk around the Bunker Hill monument from 9 to 5 every day.............since 1988.

DorkKarl, if you are out there today, why do you ask? Did you buy coins from them???

rumor is that it is a coin telemarketing scheme, POSSIBLY involved w/ a couple of well-known coin-dr's.

    notice i said: POSSIBLY

  • We'd be interested too, if anyone has any information regarding Bunker Hill Rare Coins. Hadn't heard of a "coin doctor" angle though. Please PM or email if necessary!

    Thanks!

Well, they do exist. I just called and wanted to know what their inventory consisted of and the man said they are just a mail order co. The picture of what looks like a coin shop on their website is not a coin shop. Other than that, nothing to report.

A previous link this past week or two suggested they were tied in to the group of telemarketing scam dealers rounded up recently.

I find it interesting that in their literature on their website that they claim coins are a non-speculative investment (since you get to hold the coins), and that while gold futures dropped 200% from 1980 to 1982, coins did not drop as much?? Huh? Coins got hammered bigtime and lost probably 50% to 75% of their value.

Smells and walks like a duck.

The name rings a bell, somehow...

I think maybe I saw ads from them in publications like Coins magazine, back in the bad old days of sight-unseen raw coin mailorder purchasing...(?)
