US Denomination question - what is a Mil?

My "frequently asked questions" book says the US issued cents, ½ cents and a smaller “Mil”. Has anyone seen one?

    1/10th of a cent.

    Congress has only autorized the production of coins in three demominations; the dollar, the cent, and the mil. However the mil, 1/1000 of a dollar, was never produced.
