1943 quarters have a large number of DDO and DDR's. Only a few have high value. You might want to ask 'whitewashqtr', a member of this board, for help.

Oh, BTW, PCGS only certifies one of the many 1943 DDO varieties. Its currently a Pop 1 in all grades, and has been for the last 2 years.

  • Bizzarri,

You will read many times on this forum that it's hard to tell from a scan. If you will look at your Redbook with a 16x loupe, I think you can see the differences.
    ps: welcome to the forum
  • OK, I stared at both for a while, and now I know the difference. Thanks for the clue - look at the picture
with a loop, too. I'll remember that.

The best 1943 DDO Washington (and the one PCGS will slab is CONECA 11-O-I; cross referenced as DDO006 in the Wexler/Flynn book. It's very easy to identify as it's by far the strongest for the year. It is, in fact, considerably stronger than the similar well known 1943-S.
As far as I know, only 2 Mint State examples exist along with several (probably fewer than 25) circulated coins ranging in grade from Good to XF. I once owned a Good and currently own the MS61 discovery piece.
    It's a "knockout" doubled die.
