i have tried to scan some of my coins so i can post them here but after i scan them and save them as jpegs they look really small. you cant see any detail. anyone knowhow to enlarge them enough to see the details and get the file under 50k to post them. i also have adobe photo 3.0 but cant seem to crop them and enlarge them . when i try the file size is around 800k.

Scan with a higher DPI. Specifically 300 dpi is good. This "increases" the apparent image size on screen. It's basically like a zoom for this type of usage. Once the image is in Photoshop, use the auto-levels function. I can't remember exactly where it is in your version, but I believe it is still in the Image menu, then Adjust. This will do some basic color correction. Not the best type, but good enough most of the time.
Then, crop your image to the smallest possible square around the picture. Then adjust the image size (Image menu, image size function). You'll see both Height and Width. Find the one that is the larger number. Then change it to 450. Then click OK. The resulting image is now a good size. Now, save that as a jpeg image with medium (level 5) compression. Almost all of the time this results in the largest image that can fit under the 50k limit. You'll need to adjust as needed.

<< <i>You're out of focus...perhaps the coin is raised up to much from the scanner glass. Try it again by removing the holder screws so it lays flat. Go ahead and enlarge to 150-200 percent and work down from there until your happy it the appearance. >>
No- the image was saved with too much compression, hence it is smoothly pixellated... try less compression and a larger image (don't scale it down as much)
