How much is the BU 1870-S Seated Dollar gonna bring in the upcoming Stack's sale?

My guess is $750,000. Why not?....... This coin has it all. 12 or so are known and this is the finest. Has any ever seen an 1870-S SLD in person?

And.......whose gonna buy it? Is anyone building a monster set? I truly belive a high powered Seated Dollar collection is one of the most underrated of all sets that you can build.

Imagine this set:

Cherry pick the proofs from the Pittman and Floyd Starr collection....there's your run from the 1840's and 1850's
The 1871-CC and 1870-S from the Stack's sale.
TDN's 1872-CC
Legend's Seated Dollars from those early 1860's Proof sets.
Any other finest knowns that you can think of?

Seth

So the 70-S is an Unc now? Another coin whose condition get better with the passage of time. Was just reading an article the other day on seated dollars and it was discussing their availability in high grades and it stated that it was impossible to build an Unc set because the finest 70-S was only an XF-AU coin.

I know the owner of the Norweb coin and even the Eliasberg catalog lists it as AU and the Stack coin as MS. This was back in '97.

It fits the rare date gradeflation profile perfectly...why not pump it up a few points on the old Sheldon scale image ? Maybe I'm wrong...but at this level is anyone really buying the holder (not that it makes it OK to misgrade the coin). They can call it MS69DMPL for all I care; if I had the money I would bid what the coin is worth to me (now if my lottery investment would just pay off).

I think it should be a low 7 figure coin but I'm a bit biased toward Seated material.

I believe the Norweb coin used to be the finest known, its grades around AU. Sold for around 115K. I wonder what it would bring today? But this Stack coin is special......

Hey it is widely acknowledged as the finest know and PCGS has already certified an AU58 so this one has to be uncirculated. Never mind the high point friction.image Seriously it doesn't really matter. It is a fabulous rarity and a great coin. I am going to guess a tad under 1mil. 850k hammer.
