New Peace Toner -- Opinions Please

Saw this one and followed it for several days. Can't believe the price I got it for, but hey it could be a AU coin, but I doubt it. SanFran Peaces have weak strikes to begin with. The toning seems pretty cool and natural, and rare for a 23-S.

Anyone want to guess a grade or give an opinion as to the toning?

Cheapy Toned Peace $

Thanks
Michael

Looks like a nice coin. Pretty cheap for a pretty toner like that. I bet the luster is nice too. I just paid much more than that for a NGC MS65 toned peace dollar that looks like a 63 to me. But it is pretty. mdwoods

That looks to be a coin that is going to give you a nice surprise. Could grade au/58-???? Pretty rim toning. Those are the type I prefer. Good find.

Looks like it could be a very good looking coin. And at that price, who cares? It'd be worth buying every day of the week.

Kinda strange looking with the white flap @ the top and the bottom with the tone completely broken up by fingerprints. I don't think I see any big marks so I give it a 63.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

Fingerprints! What %$#&$*$* fingerprints? Granted the front is a little odd looking but I don't see no stinkin' fingerprints.

Man, if they are there my eyes must be shot! Time for new glasses. image

Dog-- please help me out and describe where they are.

    Thanks

She looks good to me. The only print(s) I see runs in and around " In God We " .

I've got some news for some of you- that ain't no AU and was a steal.

Thanks K6AZ, I didn't think so either. I have it pegged as a solid 62 with a shot @ 63. And I still don't see any fingerprints, oh well back to the optometrists.

I'd be surprised if it was anything less than a 63. There is a huge tipoff with Peace Dollars as long as there is a decent photo. Do you know what it is? (You probably do since you snagged this one).

Nice looking dollar - with the bright light reflection on the obverse, I can't tell what you got

Will you re-photo and post pics when you get it?

I am thinking it could be rather dark with lots of clatter on the cheek and field, but hard to tell

definitely worth the risk for what you paidimage

ccr is as sincerely micheal says...astute!
OK I'll try to describe what I see. Keep in mind that they are probably barely noticeable in real life and the picture amplifies them. Also the quality of your eyesight doesn't have much to do with it, it's how your brain interrupts what you see.
Tone does not develop in straight well defined lines. Look on the face between the eye, nose & hair. See about 2 straight white lines that run from the lower part of the eye down to the jaw right in front of the hair. That's the partial print of the flat part of a thumb. Where the thumb touches it when you hold the coin carelessly or push it into an album hole.
See where the tone is mottled right in front of the face-the thumb mooched around smearing skin oil so there's no defined lines but rather spotty areas. The lines are better defined around GOD WE, they run down to the date. I clearly see 5 lines from a print. The whole area from the hair across the face to the rim is a light partial print.
The white spots in the blue color band around 3k may or may not be a print or just speckling from an envelope. The lighting is flashy there making it hard to tell but it looks like print lines right above the 3 hair curls that are in the field. I say it's envelope tone because the white area @ LIBE is from the flap. Could be album or a combination of both.
Now that I've given it the evil eye while describing the prints there is a good size hit on the chin, 3 reed marks left of the 1 in the date, a hit right above IN and a hit in the field midway between the nose and 9k. They are minor so I feel 63 is still the correct grade. The rev looks nice even with the normal weak strike on the leg.

Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
