Hi all,
I recently caught the set registry bug and now I'm hooked. I've been reading the posts on this board for a few weeks and I'm amazed by the depth of knowledge and willingness to help other collectors.
I'm a long time New Orleans Saints collector, so naturally I started with early Saints composite sets and I'm waiting for the Archie Manning player set. I also started 1961 Topps Football (the year I was born) and 1955 Bowman Football (my favorite vintage football set). I'm sure I'll be adding more - maybe even some baseball.
It looks like the board is pretty much dominated by baseball collectors, but any football fanatics feel free to get in touch.

jvineyard, welcome to the board. I use to collect the 1955 Bowman Football Set, but Stonegate who currently owns the #1 Set of All Time detroned me. He is a great source of information for that set. I am now collecting The All Time Great Receivers of the NFL. I am currently #1 with that one. There are a lot of football collectors here (not as many as baseball) who will answer any questions you might have. Thanks for joining us and good luck with your sets.

Hey John. Welcome to the boards.
With a name like Vineyard, you and LuxuryWines (Jeff) ought to get together at the National and buy all 3000 of us fellow board members a tall glass of vino. I figure a nice truckload of "Caymus Special Selection" should do just fine !!!
Welcome...hic....

CHEERS!!
I collect every sport including football. Football comes in a close second to me behind basketball. My football sets include the Hall of Fame Rookies, Qb greats, and Rb greats. I may eventully join the Reciever set as well. I have too many sets on my plate to be hardcore in just one. My best set is NBA top 50 Rookies and im only sixth in that one.

to this fine group of cardboard gatherers, and now, some 30 odd posts
later, I feel like a veteran!
Looks like you picked some great sets to start out with. If you haven't
already checked it out, and if you like college ball, I highly
recommend the 1955 Topps All-American set. It's the only one I'm
currently building, and it is incredible.

Welcome to the wacky world of entombed gridiron greats! It's excellent to have another football fanatic in the mix. I've never done the '61 Set, but love the colors -- although what's the deal with the Don Maynard and Paul McGuire PSA 9 Populations as there are on average 2-3 PSA 9s per card in the set yet there are 57 Maynard 9s and 32 McGuire 9s!?. I have dabbled quite a bit in the '55 Bowmans and can probably answer most of your questions about that set -- although I may have dethroned Ed (Alohaet) on the Set Registry he is still The King of knowledge regarding this set. By the way, Jay Wolt of Quality Cards (www.qualitycards.com) has two nice PSA 7 1955 Bowmans on his website right now that it appears you need: #34 Robert Haner and #49 Kline Gilbert (that was actually one that I busted from a pack and couldn't believe that it came back a 7 -- best darn 7 you'll ever find!). He's also got a couple of '61 Topps -- Tom Flores and the second series Checklist in PSA 8 - you can email Jay at jaycos@qualitycards.com. Peter Lalos of Champs & Bums has a boatload of '61 Topps PSA 8s on his website at www.champsandbums.com. Rick at Mint State Inc. also has some 1961 Topps PSA 8s as well -- his website is www.mintstateinc.com. Another excellent source of PSA vintage football is Vic Stanley at www.psafootball.com -- doesn't appear to be anything in your sets on his site at the moment but he's always adding more.
In football, I collect '53,54,55 Bowman and '60 Topps and am just starting the '35 National Chicle set -- so if you run across any PSA 9s in those sets in your travels -- send them my way!
Thanks,
Kevin

Good to see you. We have made a few eBay transactions for some Saints cards in the past. I also see that you are making your move in the 1972 Topps Football N.O. Saints team set. We have a pretty close race for the top spot between me, you and Gary Campos. Good luck with your sets and hope to hear some of your football collecting stories.

Carlos

It's great to see a post by you on this Message Board! Welcome. I've sold you several Saints cards in the past and I hope to find more for you.
I collect '67 Philly FB and have about 30 - 1972 Topps football cards that I've been meaning to list on the Registry. I also have a nice assortment of PSA 9 Steeler cards.
Happy collecting,
Dan Markel
