The chain cent goes back..

I sent my chain cent back to the dealer today because I was dissatisfied with its appearance - specifically one obtrusive mark on a VF coin. It was well within the return terms. The price was discounted appropriately, but to paraphrase a fellow member, "You will be satisfied with a nice coin premium price long after a problem coin discount!" There was another thread discussing how a distraction on a good coin is what you will focus on everytime you look at the coin. That was already true after only two days.
I appreciate the opinions and advice of my fellow members. I want to be proud of and enjoy my collection to its fullest; and I am convinced that the feedback and threads posted here taught me a great lesson that I wanted to share with all.
Thank you humbly,
John
p.s. I really WANTED that cent!!!

In other words - how much did the grade on the holder play in your decision?

The grade on the holder was technically appropriate - maybe even a little net graded. I don't think the grade mattered; I wanted a certain amount of detail and had a budget. This coin had more detail within my budget. However, I would be happier paying a premium for a strong, clean fine than a discounted vf with a significant mark.
Two things influenced me: 1) all I could see when I looked at the coin was the mark
2) someday, if I resold, I would have to at a discounted price
Nicks on early copper are prevalent, I would guess.
