submission of old green pcgs for upgade Question

Have several $20 Saint in PCGS Ms-64 holders graded in the mid 80's. Is it worth my time and money to re-submit them to pcgs, and do you think they would grade higher with changing standards. Dan

Better still if you get a friend or associate to look at it too. Other than a $25 regrade fee it's a relatively free shot to get an upgrade. True, you'll lose the green holder label if the coin fails to upgrade and end up with a currently graded MS64. Figure that the current difference in price to a 65 is $350, the odds are very much in your favor. All depends on what your goal is. Even collectors are allowed to make a profit. You could have a pair of 64's for the price of a single 65.

Like Coinkat said, you'd be nuts to do anything with those coins except to get solid premiums for them if sold, or to try and upgrade them prior to selling. PCGS is often very kind in reassessing older groups of their coins when resubmitted as a lot. I think the chances of getting upgrades in this manner is much more in your favor than in most any other circumstance.

Roadrunner, PCGS has said several times that the graders DO NOT know that any particular coin was sent in for regrade, as the coins are first cracked out and then go through the process as raw coins according to PCGS, therefore the graders have no idea that these were once in PCGS older holders. So how then can PCGS be very kind on reassessing groups of older coins sent in to them as a lot or otherwise?
