Sniping

Just a quick question or two or three. What do you all think a sniping and if you do snipe what is the best service out there. I've been losing alot of auctions that end near the same time because my dial-up is slower than ice melting in my freezer.

esnipe.com is what I use. It has worked every single time with no problems (yet). Try a search on here using "snipe", "esnipe", "sniping", etc. and you should find a boatload of info.

Thus I hate it as a seller and love it as a buyer I've found auctionsniper.com
to work pretty well.

I use esnipe and unfortunately have had a couple of auctions close without my bid getting in. I wasn't part of the masses going after the 1965 Topps cards that all closed at the same time and I have it set up to snipe with 12 seconds before end of auction.

All in all, 99% of my snipe bids go in fine. But, that last 1% that "missed end of auction" or reported "unknown system error" cost me several 1972 PSA 9's and 10's that I would have liked.

I would rate esnipe as positive, but not foolproof.

I've had good luck with esnipe. I don't use it as often as some, but works great when I do.

I use auctionstealer as well and my snipe DID get through on the Mastro auction (last 10 seconds) and Ive never had an auction missed.

Sniping takes away the "emotional involvement"
that (as a seller) you hope for that can drive the
price up during a bidding war.

I couldn't agree more!

By sniping the cards that I want, I don't overbid on cards. How often have you set a dollar figure on a card that you want and then see someone that you compete with (or just don't like) leading the bidding? My budget used to go out the window then. But, by setting up a snipe bid, I bid the same no matter who else bids on it. Yes, I lose some more cards, but I also don't have to stay up until 2:00 am and then try to sleep after getting my adrenalin going in the last 30 seconds of an auction!

Sniping simply takes the emotion out of the auctions for me...

They don't always work, as a recent major auction on E-Bay reflected (I'm loking for the thread, but can't seem to find it right now).

Most people on the boards seemt use them. I don't, but I'm not shy about putting in bids with a few hours to go and then walking away from the computer for the day - anxious to see what is waiting for me the next day.

I use Bidnapper.com. I signed up for the free trial and when I was hooked, I looked around at alternatives. I was a little confused by the esnipe point system, so I just went with bidnapper's monthly/quarterly subscription. I did have one fail on me for an unknown reason, but I figure if I really want a card, I'll put in the bid myself to insure I get it. Given my budget and large number of cards I need for my current target (62 Topps), I know one auction won't make a hill of beans difference.

I posted this before but I use auction sentry. The program is $10 and there is no fee to use it once you buy the program. I was spending $30 per month with auction sniper and now it's all free. The only problem I ever had was with the hundred+ snipes that closed all at once. The program overloaded and froze. Other than that it has worked perfect and it's very inexpensive.

For those of us who are grandfathered in (under $25 bids free), esnipe is a tremendous tool. Granted, most PSA cards we are all going for are over $25. But it is a wonderful tool to have.

I don't buy as much as others, so it's fine for me.

I've used just snipe for over 6 months now. I had a few problems early this year, but not one missed snipe since (over 1000 snipes placed since I started with them). The flat rate of $5.00/month for unlimited snipes was what turned me onto it. Just place two snipes for every auction in case one doesn't go through. It works every time and saves a ton of time and money.
