The "Snobbish Know It All", as I have been called, finally decided a couple of weeks ago that a real nice 43S was needed. Started searching and found one that was really liked in a Heritage Auction. Bid on it untill I thought crazy money was coming into play and then let it go. Found another one on a Web Site and pondered it for a couple of days and then pulled the trigger. Two days later another one came up on Ebay. Looked this one over real good, coin and price, then pulled the trigger again.
With these three dimes I learned a little something about Slab Value along with the Huge differences in price you can see for the same graded and quality coin. The Heritage coin went for $310 plus shipping. Not knocking this as it was a very nice looking coin but over $300 was too steep for me. Coin two which is pictured on the left was the Web Site coin. My picture is not the greatest as this is a nice coin also. Price on it was $216 delivered to my door step. These first two coins are in PCGS Slabs. Now we are up to coin number three. A Ebay Special and in a NGC Slab. You know that place that has Junk Coins for sale, Ebay not NGC. Anyway it is the coin pictured on the right. Up to Grade and originally toned. Took about 5 minutes to make up my mind and buy this coin that was not really needed. The price was $114 delivered to my door.
So there you have it. The same coin, grade and condition wise, with a price spread of $200. Apparently price sheets mean nothing. Coin prices are determined by what a collector is willing to pay for the coin. Shop with care and Happy Hunting.

bought your coin #3 from DLRC website for $180.00, I compaired the 2 side by side and prefered the Heritage
PCGS 43S over DLRC NGC 43S. I put 43S #3 up on eBay with a BIN of $110 and a $4 shipping charge. It was
definately original but a little to dark for me and sometimes I get in the mood to through in a deal amongst my
other auctions to see whos really alert. You hit the BIN you got the coin and it made me smile and I hope it
did the same for you. I was very glad to see a board member got the coin.
onlyroosies, (coming soon- onlymercs) formerly onlywarnickels
Thanks for the coin. As you said it is a little dark in the upper left portion of the coin. I sure wish the chance to compare it against the Heritage coin could have been had here also. From the scans the Heritage coin looked to be the best of the lot. From your observation of the two coins, grade wise, do you think they both are 67 quality ? The two I have are equal in my opinion with maybe just a little favoritism going to the NGC coin. It sure seems funny that at times with some coins the compitition for them comes down to board members here. Sure wish there was some way to find out who is bidding on them so the prices could be kept witin reason.
BTW if you have any more Deals in the Future let me know. I am always open for a deal and the 43S was one for sure. Now just a little Plug for your auctions. Guys if you see one of onlyroosies coins on Ebay believe me after you win it you will receive the coin faster than the speed of light and after seeing the coin there will be no remorse.
Ken
I thought you were out of the late date coins?
But, really they both look great (yea, even the dark toner).

I would have kept both 43S mercs. IMO the quality of the heritage 43S and the NGC one you received was identical, I did
prefer the toning on the PC 43S far better to the NGC one, hence... Justification for the big price difference. Fully original
with nice rim toning and white centers on both sides. If the Heritage merc never came up I would have been happy keeping
the NGC 43S for my set. I guess we were both thinking the same thing at the same time as we both ended up buying
multiple 43S's.

I thought you were saving up for those 21's

A good stock of expendable dimes is sort of my savings account. A couple of guys around here, Portland area, just love to see me coming, well most of the time. When the bank account gets built up a 21P or 21D is the priority, I think.

Sorry guys I did not realize I was being a condenscending, snobbish, over bearing jerk know it all. Strides will be attempted to cure this flaw in the personality.

With all the help you have given me via PMs, I KNOW YOU ARE NOT A "Snobbish Know It All."
Now, I see photos of two coins, but you write about three. Do we get a photo of coin 3?

Opps there I go again being arrogant and pompous. Fooey.....Sorry Again.......
Ken
onlyroosies owns the thrid coin. I was bidding on it but gave up. He won the coin and made the NGC 43S available on Ebay which was bought by myself. It was sort of odd how this all happened between two board members. Maybe he will put a picture up of the PCGS 43S he won. It really looked pretty to me on the Heritage Site.
Ken
It sat on your heels because there may have been some truth in that statement!
Listen I have no problem with you Ken, so grow up, and take it like a man - just so you know I say it the way I see it, its JMHO, and as my tag line clearly states - As Dennis remarked just now your probably as lovable as a bear - so don't be silly, and think too much into this - I've been told various lines too over the years, stuff that made me think too
Bitter? no such animal, you don't know me well at all, oh, I hate the dodger's!
Now lets get back to Merc's

So Again just....Bite Me !!
That is Stand Up and Telling it like I see it. Maybe when you get off your Telling It Like It is Kick I may change my mind, but I doubt it. You have left a lasting impression.

OK, lets set the record straight, and then I'm done with this sillyness, and going to sleep.
1. You started this today by stating I am bitter in Brooklyn!
2. You called me a jerk for attacking you without provacation - but I did not attack you today, nor ever. You called me a jerk and I merely replied accordingly period.
3. You tell me to BITE YOU, and then state I don't know what a man is! Your right, I do not know what a man tastes like, nor do I have the urge to bite you to find out
4. I tried to PM you and calm your burners but you fired back I should bite you again, no need to fend, I won't PM you again.
5. With your immature behavior you've left a lasting impression on me too! I tried to cool you off privately, and you took that too as a newbie in denial would.
6. I plan to continue having fun with everyone else - including this super Merc crowd. With all the crap going on in this world of ours I wouldn't be so silly as to lose focus on that. As Pat said , YES, we can still have fun?!!Yes, we can!
Marc
Have Fun and keep the "Tell it Like it Is" writing style tuned up. It will get you far IMO.

In sharing your extensive knowledge with us all in your mountain of posts, you have never come-off as snobish to me; only as most helpful! Just consider the source and ignore it!
I have to correct you on one thing, though. He doesn't "Tell it Like it Is".
his quote: "I say it the way I see it".
I'd say that his vision obviously needs correctin'!
According to his sig., not many must matter!
"While one who sings with his tongue on fire
Gargles in the rat race choir
Bent out of shape from society's pliers
Cares not to come up any higher
But rather get you down in the hole
That he's in." (The Master!)
