Truly and seriously, if you were to pick a replacement design for the cent...

What would it be...

Would it be a Liberty/Columbia, or would be a real person? Or maybe an inanimate design?

Personally I'd love to see some variation of the Flying Eagle design.

How cool would it be to bring back the flying eagle cent?
  • It would be more than cool!

Now, if the mint would do something like they did with the original FE... Like give them away at a fair, an expo, or something like that!

At least they wouldn't have any problem with the strike!

  • I agree... NO dead presidents! We need to come of with a design that shows strength, grace and beauty. I think I just described one of St. Gauden design! Maybe everybody on this board should input their designs and we send it to Congress and tell them this is what the public wants. It's time we shoved something down their throats.

I'd like to see a cent with a hole in the middle, so one could put them on a string and they wouldn't clutter up one's pockets and so on. The design would have to be relatively simple for a "holey" cent to work, and I doubt the American public would ever go for it, but I for one think it would be cool. It could be struck in aluminum.

Here's an old pattern struck 150 years ago...

The USA has never had a holed coin or an odd-shaped coin, to my knowledge (except the $50 Pan-Pac commems?)

  • I think we should go back to large cents.

Actually, this would probably be tantamount to removing the cent altogether, as retailers would make their prices such that totals were always in 5 cent multiples if cents were so big and heavy.
