What does it take to meet a reserve?

Say a start @ 99¢ listing with a $500 reserve.......
Simply bidding that amount of $500 or will your $500 bid show 99¢ until other bidders raise it?

It would show the $500. In other words, if you hit the reserve, the bid jumps to the reserve.
