Million dollar sets

I was pretty bored at work today, do I started browsing through the registry trying to pick out sets with an SMR of over one million dollars. I found only two for sure:

Brian Seigel's "Honus and Friends" T206 HOFer set - Just about $1.6 million

John Branca's Top 200 Sportscards set - Just about $1.5 million

Did I miss any?

I am pretty sure that Charlie's 1952 Topps set would come pretty darn close -- especially since he has so many PSA 10's.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

I wonder how much Branca has in his 1951 Bowman set now (not SMR).

I'm pretty sure my 1970 Topps baseball set is worth close to $1 million. I would be willing to sell for a little less if anyone's interested. image

A few collections easily top 1 million...Fogel, Merkel , Branca, Seigel , and probably davadillo's by sheer size.

probably a few more that do not hang around these boards. i would say 10 total.

is this the average for other established hobbies? like coins, stamps?

can anyone speculate what would happen if one of this super heavyweights decides to sell?

Oh, total collections there are MANY that well exceed $1M - I'd think Marshall Fogel has a number of subsegments (game used bats, cards) that each go for $1M+. But to have a complete set that exceeds 1M would be impressive. Consider a 500 card set (approx T206) would need to average $2000/card, a 100 card set would need to average $10,000/card...that's getting up there. And in today's market, how many cards are worth $10K+? Take a 52 Topps set - if you have $500K in the top 7 cards (like PSA 10 Mantle, PSA 9/10 Pafko, etc.) - you still need to average the remainder at $1200/card - that's a lot of PSA 9s to make up for $250 PSA 8 commons.
Why do I get the feeling, that some cards are worth money, while others are not?

I would guess that the value of Charlie and Marshal's collections is easily $5 million and probably more like $10 million. Branca is probably $5 million. There would be a lot of $1 million or more collections as Solomon says.
