So many people hold the 16D in high esteem. Merc collectors know this is a rare dime as far as total population that appears to be left. What is not know by the general collector is that a few of the other dates are just as hard or harder to obtain in higher grade than the 16D. For example the 27D and 27S and a couple of others. One day the general collecting pubic just may wake up to this fact. Hopefully not untill my collection is complete as wanted.

With the above in mind that is why no comment was made on the thread on the coin forum. The 16D is rare but it also makes more appearances than some other dates. If you have the bucks you can buy one almost any day of the week. This is certainly not true with some other dates as Merc folks here can attest to.

I agree with Ken. I have seen the 16-D at every coin show I have looked for them. Look for some other dates, and the dealers simply don't have them.

  • I also agree with Ken. I can drive for an hour around Dallas, and put my hands on at least 5 right now, in high grade, that is going to be my last coin to bring to the table....the others are very hard to come by in the grade and look I am after.
I myself hope time doesnt run out, before they take off in price.

Speaking of mercs that are hard to understand; it always seems the 24-D is under-
represented in low grades. It shouldn't be a tough coin, but it's always the third or
fourth coin missing from a set.

cladking the Merc series has many puzzles whether you are collecting high grade coins or lower grade coins. When I first started collecting these things a set in AU was the goal. Had to plain give up on that idea as the coins were not available. Now in the MS coins some of the so called common dates are just a bear to find in the grade you desire. For sure the set has challenges if you set a certain goal for the condition you want. I suppose this applies to just about any set of coins that has dates in the teens and twenties. Back then money was made to be spent and not collected as we do now.

    Ken,

I found your post generally snobbish as I had no intention to whip up nor flame the 16-D.

No kidding, we all know what you stated about this coin.... I only wanted to alert all the merc folks about an interesting thread in regard to this date, period!, - and perhaps others here would have wanted to add their two cents.
I even mentioned no comments or replies necessary to this thread.

Seems that is why a few members have shut down altogether on these threads, I wonder if the one or two know it alls just turned them off too image

Evidently in hindsight, I may be better off to just shut up too!

Well Marc....EXCUSE ME !.... you may be assured I will never reply in anyway, snobish included, after this reply to your posts in the future.

My first flame of a Merc Collector or So Called Merc Collector Ever. Keep up the good work. Your statement about Aaron was Classy also. Get some more of the guys and gals on your list. Its always better to talk personalities than Merc Dimes.

    See Ya.
