Lincoln 1944 D/S help please

I believe I have a 1944 D over S strike, but being a new collector and the lincoln set not one of the sets I am currently working on, I'm not 100% sure. The only ref. I have is the Red Book. It shows a picture but but very weak, with no description. I wish I had a scanner to enlarge and show you all but... anyways The One I have Looks as if there is a raise between the 4 and the D, and the top left corner of the D looks pointed out farther to left then the other 44d that I'm looking at. I'm wondering is there any die charecterists that would help determine this. One more silly question do any of the 44's have a the V.D.B on them. The two I am looking at do not, and for some reason I thought after 1918 they put it back on near the shoulder. But like I said I know very little about the Lincolns.

Thanks a bunch guys, this newbie appreciates all of you help.

Ron, Welcome to the Forum. The v.d.b. was only on the 1909. image

The VDB was on the reverse of some plain and S Lincolns in 1909. It was not anywhere from 1910-1917. In 1918 it was placed on the obverse (lower shoulder, near the rim). It is still there today (including, of course, the 1944.

    Oh, welcome to the boards!

Here are a couple of pictures I scanned from the Cherrypickers' Guide, while trying to get a refund on a bogus D/S I won on eBay. Photos credited to JT Stanton - if you want to get into variety collecting, buy his book:

Thanks everyone, for the excellant help. I appreciate your time in this. The one I have looks more like the Die #1, but of course not this good because the coin has been circulated. I took it to the local coin shop to have the dealer there look at it, but he was kinda rude. He looked at it and said nope, but he did not even look at it under his loop. He said "I'm not into buying crap", but when I explained to him I wasn't trying to sell it, I'm just trying to learn more, he matter of factly told me if you want quality coins look and buy mine. Oh well. If I sent it into the guys here at PCGS, would they grade error wheets, I know they won't do My double die 71 proof IKE. But they will do my 46 walker. I would love to get it slabbed just to take back in there and say look here.

Excelant Web sit, do you know if there is one focusing on Walker and and Proof IKE's by any chance, These are the two sets I'm focusing on, while the little lady just loves those Indian Head Cents.

Once again thanks a bunch, you will probablly see a bunch more of regarding the tons of questions I have about these three sets.

    Thanks again guys.

I would have everyone one of my friends go to his shop look over his coins and then tell him he sells crap!

CaptainRon, if you plan on keeping the coin, do send it in to PCGS. They will grade it and I can understand your pleasure in going back to the shop and showing him the coin. I would never do business with anyone who is so rude. Good luck. Steveimage

Off hand, I don't know if PCGS grades the 1944 D/S Lincoln. ANACs will. I am sure that PCGS now does grade the 1946 WLH DDR. Good Luck...
