Here's a little info for you coin heads.....i just got my stats from eBay....i averaged about $115,000 for the first four months of 2003 in sales per month on eBay and i am in the bottom of the top 50 sellers.
The top sellers sell as much as $600,000 per month.
The thing that surprises me is that my sales have not really suffered although my eBay presence has diminished....as i have been listing most things under $25,000 in my eBay store.
One final thing that probably won't surprise you.....coins are one of the hottest areas on eBay.

How many coin dealers are on the top 50 list and what do the top sellers sell?
One more thing; you have a descript on a coin "Did you know that some people think they can grade coins by looking at images? Yup, those people are out there." Were you thinking about mw when you wrote that?
Dog.....I think i was actually trying to castigate all persons who think they can grade by looking at an image. (It's cool to have suspicions and hunches and loosely held opinions formulated from images, but there is little that make my butt twitch more than some know it all who thinks he can grade by looking at images.)
Who is WM? Is that the fellow (his name escapes me) who criticized me about some capped bust qtr i have in ngc ms 65?

Athough, with reading all your mostly lengthy descriptions and viewing the great photo's you put up......i suspect you're putting in quite a bit of time on that "2nd" job!

She is a little stinker. The other day I was giving her the third degree (finger wagging included) and she looked me straight in the eye
and started simply moving both of her eyebrows up and down while I was reprimanding her. Do you know how hard it is to keep a
straight face when someone is doing that to you? My wife and I just busted out laughing.
Kids are the best. They keep you young. They grow your heart big too -- you'll never know how much you can love someone until you have
a child.

would only be half of what it is. And for me, the fun is what it is primarily about.
I can relate to the eybrow thing as my daughter is little over 2 years old and she does things on a daily basis that make me and my wife laugh about. Kids are cool

Let me see, 50 sellers with $115K being the lowest monthly total sales and $600K being the top.... Let's conservatively call that at least $150K per month per top 50 seller on average. So that is $7 and a half million in coins traded monthly on eBay, probably much more if you consider all the small fry (like me).
Does that make eBay the largest retail venue for coins in the world?
Congrats on your selling success. I wish I could buy or had bought some of those gorgeous coins.
More importantly, you are so right about kids. I never imagined how fulfilling (and challenging) the experience can be. You have a lot of heart...for a plaintiff's lawyer!

Furthermore, I have removed, with no damage to the calander, the most pristine exemplar of my 2003 calander, the one carefully selected by yours truly for proper color and printing registration, which was placed in the cornerstone of my home, buried in 18 inches of concrete.
I then, utilizing my current favorite fountain pen, a Rotring Core, a photo of which appears below, properly addressed the envelope with your address on it.
I hope that these measures have at least begun to rectify the harm to our friendship that I have caused.

Thanks for the compliment. I hope I don't disappoint you. Knowing that I've taken claims against lawyers who have screwed up their client's cases may even make you want to be friends with me. (And knowing that I never sue my friends may also endear me to you!)

One of my best friends here in St. Louis is a plaintiff's attorney, and 90% of his work is med mal. My comments were truly tongue-in-cheek. By all accounts here and on ebay, you seem like a great guy--someone I would be more likely to be a friend of than an enemy!

Congrats. That is alot of volume!! Your daughter is a cute one. Liza and I are thinking about starting a family. Lots of variables though, the Navy, starting a business etc. I guess you cant plan for that perfect time when it comes to kids.
By the way, you should have that butt twitching thing checked out, I dont think it is normal nor healthy...

Gosh Adrian, (stman almost feeling special) you really took the time to write all that just for me, and even remembered I bought more than one coin from you?
Dug it out of concrete, I almost feel like one of your family now. The great measures you have taken in an attempt to rectify a friendship where there was never a problem to begin with. The heck with what they all say about you...... What time is dinner?

While I do not expect you to answer this question in quantifiable terms I was interested in what the profit margin (PM) is. Would it be fair to say that the profit margin is what we might consider to be a "nominal profit". I typify that as between the 8 to 12 percent range. Again, I don't want to know your number, I am trying to figure out if my 1.5 percent PM is right or too low for the market.

I think that many people assume that I charge large margins, and on some coins, i do but most coins simply don't have much more room in them past 10%, or so.
Also, i pay a little more for my coins than the average coin dealer because
1) I try to buy only coins that turn me on which are usually are not fungible. I don't buy coins, generally, because they might make me money.
I buy them because I like them. I don't want to get buried in a coin but i don't mind owning a coin for a very, very long time if it is the
right coin. I make most of my money owning a law firm and can afford to inventory coins as opposed to just regularly flipping average
coins....
2) I don't go to many coin shows outside of Texas. It's risky, time consuming and a great deal of work not to mention the cost. And it
takes me away from my family. I'd rather have my friends (agents) go to shows and bring stuff home where I can study them and make
informed deliberate decsions. (I also have friends that offer me coins through the mail and a fairly good sized auction company is located
in my publecito.) So, instead of spending money travelling and making buying mistakes, I spend more for the very best coins, or at least
what i consider to be above-average coins....like this one, which was brought to me today by one of my friends:
