Your thought on why it seems so hard to find a nice 1939-S Mercury Dime!

I don't know why, but one of the really tough dates for me to locate was a 1939-S Mercury dime. I wound up settling for a place holder MS64. Why with a mintage of 10,540,000 does this date seem so tough?

Any ideas?

I dont know why, but it certainly is true. I bailed on a no bands 67 when the price went just a bit too high and the other bidder was showing no signs of slowing down. No point is driving the price crazy. I have had an easier time finding early Mercs.. Go figure.

ABout 2 months ago I was lucky in landing a super near flawless example in MS-65FB. If I recall we discussed then how tough this date is. As mentioned by Lange that a certain relaxation of full-band definition may be in order in fact he's got a R5 on MS64-65 so it is no wonder your having a cow finding a nice one or any acceptable example really.
