DON'T clean a coin!

On another thread about IHC's I replied about an instance of cleaned Indians.
My absolute BEST one was when we first opened our shop in 79. Phone call for price on 1911D $2.50. And I gave my canned spiel about not cleaning it first.
Guy came in and was STUNNED when I asked which brand of toothpaste he had used.
Couldn't believe that I could not only tell it was cleaned....but also HOW he did it.
What a mess. I told him I hoped it was about $1000 worth of "fun" because that was what it had cost him.

Too bad those horror stories abound.
Even if done professionally, cleaning copper cents can give unwanted results sometimes.
