DMPL vs PL

Is the only difference between a DMPL morgan and a PL the distance of reflectivity? The PCGS grading book says a DMPL must have at least 6 inches of mirror reflectivity. PL's will have 2 to 4 inches. Once they are in the holder it is hard to see the mirror effect since light also reflects off the plastic of the holder. Is there anything else to look for to tell the difference?

It's all about the inches. An extra two to four inches makes all the difference in the world - - - at least that's what the ladies say . . .

  • Several extra inches will make you top pop and much admired... image
  • When you tilt a Morgan under a light you see the cartwheel effect if the coin has nice luster. A PL coin will have some luster and a little cartwheel effect. A DMPL coin won't have any luster. Deeply reflective, mirror like fields don't have that effect and are similar to proof coins in that respect.

    That's a good ? Merc.
A nice DMPL field will look like an actual mirror while a lesser quality field will look almost the same way but it is more shiny & silver instead. Which of course affects the depth. Hope that made sense.
I know what your saying because a brown penny in a new slab can have DMPL qualities from the plastic. You have to make your eyes focus farther away on the coin instead of looking at the holder. Hope that made sense too.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
