Help - recent mention of cent on dime collector

seanqseanq Posts: 8,703 ✭✭✭✭✭
Some time in the last three months or so, I read a small bio about a collector of cents struck on dime planchets. The collector claimed to have a nearly complete date run of cents on dime planchets from 1940 to date, missing only six or seven coins.

IIRC it was one of the little blurbs companies put in the front of auction catalogues describing the accomplishments of their consignors. I went back thru all of the Heritage catalogues I've received this year and couldn't find it, so I'm thinking I read it online, maybe in assocaiation with an eBay LiveAuction. Can anyone help me find that reference again?

Thanks,

Sean Reynolds

    Sean,

The writeup you are talking about was in reference to one the two collectors who won those off-metal 1943 and 1944 Lincoln auctions for record prices in the last Goldberg sale. The article where this collection was mentioned was the lead story in the March 17, 2003 issue of Coin World.

You can contact Mike Byers at www.byersnc.com (contact info on that site) and ask him about it (He might know). You can also check out this web site, www.minterrornews.com.

Exactly why I couldn't remember it - was barking up the wrong tree. Thanks a million for jogging the memory banks!
