Board Etiquette Question

While I'm probably opening myself up here bigtime, I'll ask the Rookie question. Is it kosher to advertise your auctions on this board? I'm guessing it's ok on the vintage sportscard trading seeing as the name itself says it, but I recall seing someone respond rather bruntly to someone plugging their auction on this board. My dilemma is that I have a product that might appeal to this audience where it might not appeal to the other board's audience (I know people browse both, but I really want to reach this audience.)

What's the right way to approach this. If someone says it's okay, I'll provide more info.

  • People spam their auctions on here all the time. I would suggest you put any older cards in the vintage forum and modern stuff in the Buy sell trade forum.

I would say...post your auctions over on the vintage trading board....also I think that one should use common sense when listing their auctions over there. I do not think the board was intended for people to list every single item they are selling and posting threads everyday or so. I would say that if you have a highly desirable card, a lot, or a nice grouping ending at the same time then I would post it. I would find it kind annoying if I saw a post saying "1966 PSA 8's for sale"...then see links for a guy spamming 3 $12.00 commons he has on eBay.

    Just my $0.02.

i dont mind seeing complete or partial sets posted on this board. like if someone were to break up a set and wanted to give a heads up to the board...but defenetly not 1990 topps.

  • Thanks for the info. I posted on the other board.

I think putting your ebay auctions in your "signature line" is a good solution. It is accessible for those who want to see what you have, and it is not intrusive to those with no interest. I don't know how much traffic my "signature line" generates, but perhaps some check it out every now and then. You could even reference it if it was relevant to the topic. Good luck!

I think posting on this board makes sense if you are selling something as a set -- or if you have some low population, highly desirable card. (e.g. think Joe Hatten or Frank Overmire PSA 8 -- but do not post any late 1960s PSA 9 1/1 card).

You can't go wrong posting on the vintage trading board -- though it is clear that there are less people that consistently browse through those forums than this one.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

  • Selling sets on this board is probably ok, but Vintage trading and Buy Sell are two boards specifically designet for sales and trading. I've seen a few (but not too many) spamming postings on this board moved by the Moderator to Vintage trading and Buy Sell.

  • I think that it is okay to post links to groups of PSA-graded commons.

I don't think it is appropriate to post links to stars, or to cards that people would not likely be set-collecting.

Spam is in general uncool, but most of the people who read this forum are actively buying PSA-graded commons, so I expect that there would be people who would be happy to see it.

So far we haven't had so much spam that it has caused a problem here.

    This is OK.

    This isn't.

Hope that clears it up. image

  • I look at auction and card notices as any other thread. If you have an interest read it, if not pass on. I think it's more annoying and damaging to the growth of the board when a newbie posts the cards they have for sale and gets slammed/derided by other posters from spamming. No one person owns this board, but we all share in it.

Uniships sig line is helpful, but I would check it more often if I was alerted to what he had for sale.
