1939 Jefferson Full Steps...Reverse of 1938 vs. 1940?

Is there any difference in the rarity and value of a 1939 Jefferson with full steps in the 1938 Reverse compared to the 1940? If so, how much and which one is scarcer.

these reverses are tough enough to figure out one-from-the-other. PCGS has recently started adding the type on the slabs and to date the 1940 Rev. is the scarcer reverse on all the P-D-S coins in holders. it appears that 1939-P will turn out to be scarcer in 1938 Rev. while the D and S mint coins will be scarcer in 1940 Rev.
of course we also have the 1940 Rev. of 1938 Proof issues to consider. ya gotta love the series!!

Your assement is that of Nagenast"s. The problem is that PCGS only recently began correct classification between the two reverse dies.
Until just a few months ago, they were all slabbed without reverse die classification and assumed as REV. '38. Based on the POP'S, I
wouldn't be paying any type of premium for a REV."40. In fact, I'm just staying away from the '39 date for awhile. I'm chasing plenty of
other dates for my set.
PCGS already screwed up the numbering system for this date and what dies should be included in the basics set. The POP'S are only usefull
to the well experienced collector. Guess that leaves me out!
Unless the porch and steps have a strong strike, what other features define the die? Maybe Frank can help on this?
