Large Cent Guys, How Much Would You Pay For This 1808?

I've seen this coin a few times at Heritage, both for sale, and being auctioned. While the coin looks very mark-free, the strike is terrible on both sides. Just wanted to get opinions on how much a bad strike like this would devalue a large cent.

  • Not sure exactly which one you're referring to. Like them all but can't agree with the grades, how they grade these is a mystery to me, rather liberally IMO.
It's the "hunt" that makes this such a great hobby...
  • Sorry, I'm talking about the 1808 in MS66, I can't get the link to go directly to that coin.

  • In my opinion, it is a $9000 - $10,000 coin. I would want to see it in person before taking a chance on it.

It looks like that coin is making the rounds.

It was offered in Heritage's July, 2002 sale, where it apparently failed to sell, but was then sold at their FUN sale in January, 2003 for $ 11,500.

Classic head large cents are very difficult coins, but it is interesting that this is graded a 66.
