New Orleans DMPL's - Are there better?

For the money I can't imagine a better buy than New Orleans DMPL's - they're prettier it seems than those of other mints, though I've seen some killer CC DMPL's - If you have some nice ones from other mints I'd love to see them - Here are three Southern Belles:

Frank, those are nice, but nothing compares with the 78-82 coins struck in San Francisco.

K6 - I agree with you that for overall quality they're fabulous - though you tend to see more one sided DMPL's especially in '78 and '82 - if anyone has any pics of some of these they'd be great to see!

Hey, I've got a great one sided 80-S on eBay.. I have a couple of 81-S coins in my box in town, never bothered to slab them but probably would make 64 DMPL easily. As soon as I move some stuff out of here I will get around to fetching them and posting pictures.

    Whoa!image Is that a 67 or 68 !?

  • DMPL's are beautiful coins. Some of the CC's are absolutely amazing. This is my favorite.

I like the device frost on the early S mints

    image

But then, the 85-O can be frosty also

and here's a PL Carson City with moderate frost

frank you are absolutely correct the o mint gem dmpl coins are extremely undervalued underapprecaited and downright rare!!!!!!!!!!!! with the right look to them and with eye appeal

look at the 1881 o go find a dmpl in gem that has great eye appeal!! almost impossible

even in regular mintstate they are ugly coins eye appeal wise even in gem and then add dmpl surfaces really impossible to get with great eye appeal the hardest coin 1881 o to get with great eye appeal in gem mintstate

but here is a superb gem dmpl 1888 o which is one of the finest known has a neat cameoed appearance monsta deep mirrors and does NOT have the multiple tiny obverse ticks usually seen on this date and mintmark combo

the cleanest cheeked 1888 o dmpl i have ever seen monster cameo obverse and a nice cameo reverse the scan barely does justice to the coin and doesnot show its deep mirrors

    sincerely michael

  • Dragon's 84CC is abosolutely gorgeous. I like the O mints but I have never seen one that matches the beauty of a cc like Dragon's.

thanks frank and dragon! the scan doesnot show the mirrors on the 88 o

but the mirrors on the 88-o in person sight seen has as deep as the deepest 79s dmpl dollar!! and

also 100% fully struck down to the hair over the ear! even moreso than many proofs!

Great thread, I'm a little late for I had a hard time finding the below PCGS profile on my favorite southern belle. Myself and family all have moles on our skin so I don't have a problem with this piece like some other people doimage

I still remember the talks by the water
    The proud sons and daughter
That knew the knowledge of the land
Spoke to me in sweet accustomed ways
