PCGS Number?

FlashFlash Posts: 1,090 ✭✭✭
In this eBay auction for an 1833 1/2 Cent, the picture of the item shows a PCGS coin with the coin number 1162. I own a coin exactly like the one featured in this auction, however the label on my coin shows the coin number as being 1163. A quick check of PCGS' Coin Lookup Table shows the number for the 1833 1/2 Cent as correctly being 1163. This list shows no 1/2 Cent with a number of 1162. Can somebody please shed some light on this for me? Could this be a labeling error, or am I missing something here? Thanks.
Matt

Could very well be a labelling error- they're known to happen.

Oh, cool! Thanks Boiler. How did you find that out? The PCGS list doesn't differentiate between the two. My coin looks brown to me, however. I didn't know that PCGS differentiated between RB or BN in the AU55 grade. The label on my coin doesn't say its a RB coin. Looks Brown to me, though.

Matt- If you check the pop report the 1833 1/2 cent has 3 different coin numbers 1162 for bn/ 1163 for rb and 1164 for rd. curiously the slab in your link does not include a color designation and apparently neither does your coin. image

Does PCGS just put one of the coins with a designation when it gets the AU grade where ever is handy ? I have a 29S AU58 Merc that is in with the FB Dimes. Being there makes it a Pop 1 coin for the grade.
