Been COMPLETED or are nearing completion. Hats off to those that have climbed the mountain! And Especialy to those with sets of few hundred or more cards. Alot of work has gone into it. 2 years ago I would have never guessed 1000 sets above 90%. It shows you how devoted SET collectors are. It wil be intresting to see how manymore there will be come OCT,31 2003.

James,at the start of the year I was keeping track of the sets on every update and wish I kept up on it because it was fun to watch the numbers rise and fall.

I was curious about these statistics so I did some searching. Here are some other interesting facts about the registry:

There are 5249 registered sets as of today (4/27/03).

Out of those here is the breakdown by sport:

    3391 Baseball Sets (445 unique)
    870 Football Sets (209 unique)
    517 Basketball Sets (116 unique)
    247 Hockey Sets (86 unique)
    224 Miscellaneous Sets (123 unique)

    Using the above numbers:

The average Baseball Set has 7.6 sets registered
The average Football Set has 4.2 sets registered
The average Basketball Set has 4.5 sets registered
The average Hockey Set has 2.9 sets registered
The average Miscellaneous set has 1.8 sets registered

The set most registered (out of all sports and non-sport cards) is the 1975 Topps Baseball set with 94 current entries, the 1972 Topps Baseball set is 2nd with 83 entries, and the 1968 Topps Baseball set is 3rd with 77 entries.

1986/87 Fleer Basketball comes in 4th with 68 entries (the 86/87 stickers are #36 with 27 sets registered) and the next non-baseball set is 1969 Topps Football coming in at #37 with 26 registered sets.

There are 979 different sets currently registered. Maybe the 1000th unique set could win some sort of prize.

There are 124 sets with none registered yet. image That's almost 13% of all available sets!

There are 295 sets with only one registered - come October that will amount to a lot of set registry certificates for unchallenged sets.

Out of the top 100 registered sets (based on # of registered sets): 68 are baseball, 18 are football, 10 are basketball, 2 are hockey, 1 is golf, and 1 is Pokemonimage.

In case anyone wondered, the 1999 Pokemon Game Basic Holofoil is the most registered non-sport set with 13 sets registered.

For the hockey collectors, it appears that the 1954-55 Topps is most popular with 16 registered sets.

The most registered individual player set is the Mickey Mantle Basic Set with 25 registered sets followed by the Pete Rose Master Set with 19 currently registered.

    Rob,

Here is an update to your last check. Between 1/13 and 4/27:

Today there are 5249 sets registered.

    Completion Percent Total Registered Sets

    90-100% 1000 +250
    75-89% 293 +88
    50-74% 413 +95
    20-49% 811 +210
    Less than 20% 2732 +530

all nice stats. it is great to see that progress is always being made. lets not forget that there were sets that were deleted as well and there was still progress. can anyone find out the increase of unique cards registered over a time period??

for the record: In case anyone wondered, the 1999 Pokemon Game Basic Holofoil is the most registered non-sport set with 13 sets registered. 12 of the 13 sets are from the same collector.

Chris - I don't think there really is a way to do that unless you follow each group of sets individually.

When I started watching the total registered sets stats completion % the closest thing one can do is see the numbers rise and fall in each completion total. However,it could mean a few different things.

    Today- 1/10 4069 sets registered.

    90-100% 744 + 4
    75-89% 206 + 4
    50-74% 317 - 4 could mean that 4 sets graduated to 75-89%
    20-49% 597 + 9
    Less than 20% 2205 -1

But then the next update is 4054 sets registered so where did 15 sets go?

In looking at this, it got me curious. . .I wondered which sets were being the most actively built.
So. . .I looked at the Registry and built a table which lists all the Topps sets by year from 1952 to 1979. I then listed how many sets for that year had reached at least 50% completion. Of those that got 50% complete, how many went to 75% complete. . .and in turn, how many have gone to 90% complete. The data was gathered from the Current Finest - not the All Time Finest.

The results were interesting and can be viewed here.

I thought I'd dig up this old thread and see how we've progressed over the past 3 months.

    Here is an update.

    Between 4/27/03 and 7/20/03:

Today there are 6139 sets registered - a net increase of 890 sets.

Those are good numbers to see. The bottom under 20% could just be the people that register one card to show it off, which is probably not what the registry was made for, bit the rest of the numbers show that people are making a lot of progress in actually building their sets. The card market is doing good.

I was bored, so here is another update.

    Between 7/20/03 and 8/22/03:

Today there are 6449 sets registered - a net increase of 310 sets in one month.

Completion Percent____Total Registered sets_____Net Change Since last update

    90-100%________________1415_________________+120
    75-89%__________________356_________________+13
    50-74%__________________528_________________+28
    20-49%_________________1017_________________+11
    Less than 20%___________ 3133________________+138

I think it's interesting to see that the number of additional sets reaching 90-100% completion on each of these updates continues to be a large % of the change (over 400 sets have achieved 90% or better in the past 4 months). Looks like the Set Registry is in good shape. I'll update again in a month or so.

I'm glad to see you are keeping track of this with a detailed report attached,JEB.A day or so ago I checked the numbers to see where things were when I completed my Reds Team set.

A while back I was keeping track on a daily basis like that bus driver joke( 2 people get on,3 get off,5 on, 2 off) but it was difficult and didn't raise too much discussion.

A monthly report is just great, keep it up.

Thanks for the update it tells us how serious collectors are.I imagine the #'s will start to rise in the 50% and over completion ratio. And those upgrades getting added in the next 2 months or so. I wonder how many #1 positions will change from last year in the registry?

My set is going to make a jump soon. I sent off my cards to PSA . I will be nearly finished with my basic set. I still need 5 cards to complete the set. Very cheap cards, just can find them in quantity or the one gem mint single.
